  1. “Miss Martiello” ~ was my favorite teacher in all of my school years. She was a beautiful lady inside and out – my 5th grade teacher from 1964-1965 at Dr. Peter Marshall Elementary School on Crescent Ave. in Anaheim. It was her first year of teaching, but as a young 10-11 year old, she had quiet assurance and poise about her, and I thought she was a seasoned teacher.

I saw and visited with her 13 years later in 1978 while she was teaching at Albert Schweitzer Elementary School, also in Anaheim. I was working for an Insurance Company as a rater at that time, living in Central California – and she took a moment and introduced me to her class. I looked her up again in the mid 2000’s after we moved back to Southern California. She remembered me, and I kind of stayed in constant touch with her all of these years. We met for lunch 2 and half years ago at Mimi’s Cafe in Lake Forest, her choice. I thought we would be there maybe 2 hours and it ended up being a little over 4 hours! She was still the same decent, caring, giving person that she always was. I am sure going to miss her. She lost her dear husband Walter in 2016, she was an only child, and they didn’t have children. As she told me in 1978, her students are her children. She had some cousins on the east coast that she visited a couple of years ago. I’ll choose to remember all of the great memories I have of her, and I’m so happy to meet you all ~ her dear friends of all of these 50+ years.

  2. Thank you, Marina! That is so nice to hear. There will never be another Joan Martiello Schaer. I adored her all of her life.

  3. Marina Van says:

Dear Dale, My cousin Joan told me about your meeting st Mimi’s she loved meeting with you and treasured your friendship Joanie’s cousin Marina

  4. Another special memory of that 1964-65 school year: Miss Martiello took our class on a field trip to Griffith Park & Observatory and invited her mother to come along as a chaperone. Being an excited 11 year old, I told them that I know Miss Martiello and now I get to meet Mrs. Martiello. Her Mom was just as wonderful and I’ll never forget either of them. I bless their memory. I wish I could have met Mr. Martiello, her Dad. I have heard recently that he was a good and fine gentleman.
