Obituary

Zak James Carroll

Zak was a beacon of light, radiating warmth and love to all who met him. Constantly encouraging friends and family to be a better version of themselves no matter what circumstances, Zak’s vibrant personality far surpassed the inner demons only he knew intimately. With an impish sense of humor and a wry smile, Zak loved to entertain. Those lucky enough to be around him loved to watch him excel at dance, music, karaoke, and his limitless cascade of snidely funny – but never offensive – remarks. Zak was a truly captivating personality. Indeed, his personal fashion statements were as well, encompassing countless pairs of sneakers and footwear to set off his ripped jeans, t-shirts, baseball caps, and hoodies all elevated in a way only Zak could pull off. A natural athlete and a scratch golfer, Zak moved effortlessly and oh, so cooly.

Zak was devoted to his friends; even as he struggled he made sure to always provide a cushion for them to land on and remember him by. The heartfelt outpouring of love and personal recollections of so many, from his childhood to his last days, demonstrate his selfless humanity. The ability to look all in the eye, listen with genuine interest, and make them know he cared was Zak’s own special forte. There was so little Zak did not excel at; tragically, there was only one thing he was unable to master: his addiction, which he battled for years. Zak, who provided incredibly beautiful sentiments of inspiration to so many in need, was unable to find them within himself.

Perhaps above all, Zak loved his family. Over family holidays, with his adoring cousins, and later his devoted little sister in tow, Zak would lead the pack as the fair-hair, golden child, erupting everyone into cackles and howls of laughter. This contagion so often and easily spread to his aunts, uncles, grandparents, and parents – culminating in so many outlandishly fun and hilarious late night fests. At home with his parents and sisters, smiles, laughter, and boundless love within every tiny memory propels everyone forward, as we mourn this unimaginable loss. Certainly, Zak would want that for all of us who knew him, and by definition, therefore, miss him dearly.

We love you Zak, our beautiful boy –

A day hasn’t gone by since this has happened that I haven’t thought about Zak…it has been an emotional roller coaster between Tayler, Kellie, Gracie and myself. .
I have a lot of good memories of Zak, dinners and birthdays etc…The one thing that always stood out to me was his sense of style (creativity) He always stood out in a crowd, which is awesome. I remember buying a “Thrasher” T-shirt one day and Zak pretty much “made” me give it to him so he could make it unique. Sure enough, he made the shirt look amazing and I was even stopped and asked about it when I wore it. I’ll keep that shirt forever.
My heart goes out to his family everyday, you’re all in my prayers.

    With Love Always,
    April Haley

  2. I’m still trying to wrap my head around the loss of our precious grandson Zak. From little on and through out his life he was such an”all around guy”, so caring and loving, our pride and joy.
Jill, Tom and families, Phil and I share your heartbreak and will be forever grateful for having Zak in our lives.
Rest in peace Zak. Loving thoughts and blessings of peace to all who mourn with us,
    Grandma Billie Carroll

A life cut short is a life unfilled, a loss for so many. Zak had a loving personality and a smile for all who knew him. It’s difficult to believe, to understand, that he will, from now on, be one of loving memories. Those memories will continue for the rest of our lives.
God bless you, grandson. Peace be with you.

  3. Will never forget his effortless swing and sneaky long drives. I called him Zacmaster Flash and will miss him forever. My prayers to those he left behind and loved so much.

  4. My heart aches for everyone who knew Zac and/or his family. The written tribute to him, his life is perfect-he was truly a kind, gentle soul and will be deeply missed. Although I didn’t spend much time with him, my memories of him at the Packers game in Phoenix, Aunt Bill and Uncle Phil’s 70th in Vegas will forever remain as my vision of such a beautiful, fun loving human.
Words cannot possibly express the sadness I feel for his parents and siblings. To my cousin Tom- I love you deeply and continue to pray for the incredible sadness to diminish but never fade;to be replaced by the brightness of beautiful memories of a son gone too soon. Rest in peace dear one.
