Obituary

Yung-Chuan Wei 蔡咏娟 passed away on January 7, 2022, at the age of 71. Yung-Chuan, also known as Jane, was wife to Alex Kai Yuan 魏開元; sister of Tuchih Tsai 蔡篤志 and his wife Maria Tham 譚翠霞; mother to Jeren, his wife Bonnie, and Crystal; and grandmother to Jordan, Kendall, and Ryland. She lived a full life and was taken too soon from her loved ones. Her positive outlook, laughter, and joy will be dearly missed and will live on in our hearts.

Yung-Chuan was born and raised in Taiwan and attended Tunghai University. She emigrated to the US with her husband Alex, living first in New Haven where her son Jeren was born. After moving to Elmhurst, Queens NY and then Chappaqua NY,  she worked for three decades at the United Nations, forming lifelong friendships with beloved colleagues.

For the past decade, Yung-Chuan enjoyed retirement at Laguna Woods playing many rounds of golf with friends, traveling around the world with Alex, and growing a beautiful garden with prized fruits and flowers.

Due to COVID, the funeral service will be limited to immediate family. Those wishing to pay final respects may do so any time between 10am-12pm on Wednesday, January 26, 2022 at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills (25301 Alicia Parkway, OConnorMortuary.com, 949-581-4300). Yung Chuan, Alex and I attended the same college – Tunghai University in Taiwan, back in the early 1970s. We were all in History major. My first impression of Yung Chuan then was her pair of beautiful gentle big eyes. She struck me as a positive, easy-going person. Humble yet confident. A person you can trust and depend on. The garden she created at her home in Laguna Woods is beautiful and soothing. I will miss Yung Chuan dearly.
