I feel lucky to have had the opportunity to get to know such a wonderful guy who I came to think of as a brother. Everyone loved you and will miss you. You always made me laugh.

You will be missed. I am truly grateful for all the fun times doing water sampling outside Newport. I loved all the photography, the photos you would email, and the pictures you allowed us to use in our annual reports.

  3. Tom Slayton says:

You were a rock. Always so calm and cool, you made everything look easy, almost effortless. I recall Christmas Boat Parade Meetings where the entire Chamber of Commerce made me promise that you would drive the lead boat. They knew what we all knew; you had truly mastered your job, and did it better than anyone.

People like Willie are rare. He was a true professional who had a passion for his work, his peers, and especially his supervisors. He always came to work with a smile, and made everything he did look easy. He had a way making a hectic situation or incident look less so, which always helped reach an easier and successful conclusion. I will miss you, Brother. I will keep the passion alive for your “Anaheim” Angels and hope they bring you a championship.

  5. Willie,
I knew from the day I met you in the academy, you were always going to be one of the good guys. You were a great classmate, silent warrior and brother in arms. It’s already been said but it’s worth repeating, we are all better off because you were in our lives. The department and people we serve are all better off because you were here. You will be missed but not forgotten. Rest In Peace my brother.
