Obituary

Ron Downer of Mission Viejo, Ca, passed away on December 11, 2013 at age 64.
He was born in DeKalb County, Alabama on July 4, 1949. As the son of a career member of the US Air Force, he lived in multiple locations during his childhood. He graduated from high school at Kaiserslautern American High School in Germany.

After Ron served in the US Air Force for 4 years, he attended college and graduated from San Jose State in 1975 with a business degree. He worked for several high technology manufacturing companies in the Santa Clara area before moving to Orange County in 1980.

Although he continued working in the accounting field in Orange County, it was here that he discovered his love of teaching the game of soccer. Over the next 30 years, he coached at several of the local high schools and club organizations. His most recent efforts were with Dana Hills High School and Capistrano Soccer Club and he continued to coach through the summer and fall of 2013.

He is survived by Kathy Downer (wife), Hubert and Lisa Downer (father and step-mother), Michael Downer (brother), Kara Downer and Shawna Berke (daughters), and Brady and Jeremy Berke (grandsons). He was preceded in death by Virginia Scott (mother) and Brenna Berke (granddaughter)

There will be a private memorial service for his family. In addition the local soccer community will be holding an open memorial on Sunday, December 29, 2013. Place and time are yet to be announced
