Walter Maretzki entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on July 16, 2026, at the age of 83.

Walter was born on October 3, 1942, in Germany, to Jakob and Alma Maretzki. He was the youngest of twelve children and was raised in a close-knit family whose love and devotion to Christ and one another shaped his life. At an early age, he placed his faith in Jesus Christ, and his relationship with the Lord became the foundation of his life. In 1960, he emigrated from Germany to Canada, where he began building the life that would become his enduring legacy.

On July 3, 1965, Walter married the love of his life, Gisela. Together they were blessed with three children: Thomas, Heidi, and Jennifer. In 1978, Walter and his family moved to Orange County, California, where he continued to faithfully serve his family, church, and community.

Walter was a devoted husband, loving father, and proud grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife, Gisela; his children, Thomas (Penney) Maretzki, Heidi (Chris) Manzanares, and Jennifer (David) Wilde; his cherished grandchildren, Isabella and Gavin Maretzki, Gisele and Cosette Manzanares, and Lydia, Amelia, and Ian Wilde; his brother, Heinz (Gundi) Maretzki; his sisters, Alma (Edmund) Jabs and Waltraud (Horst) Laser; and many nieces and nephews who cared deeply for Walter. His family was his greatest treasure, and he delighted in every opportunity to spend time with them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jakob and Alma, and his siblings: Edmund (Maria) Maretzki, Hilde (Theodor) Hammermeister, Wilhelm (Hilde) Maretzki, Meta (Werner) Sudfeld, Paul (Hilda) Maretzki, Bruno Maretzki, Leo Maretzki, Albert (Elizabeth) Martz.

Walter enjoyed a long and respected career as an HVAC journeyman. Throughout the industry, he earned a reputation for exceptional integrity, outstanding craftsmanship, and sound business judgment. Those who knew him professionally admired not only his skill but also the honesty and character that defined everything he did.

Walter embraced life with enthusiasm. He loved traveling and creating memories with family and friends wherever he went. He was always active, enjoyed playing and watching sports, and had a lifelong passion for soccer and golf. Perhaps one of Walter’s most memorable qualities was his ability to connect with others. He never knew a stranger. Whether meeting someone for the first time or greeting a lifelong friend, he was a role model to many. Walter made people feel welcome, valued, and at ease.

Those who knew Walter will remember his steadfast faith, infectious smile, generous hospitality, and genuine interest in others. His life reflected God’s love through quiet acts of kindness, faithful service, and unwavering integrity. While his family grieves his absence, they rejoice in the assurance that, because of his faith in Jesus Christ, he is now at home with his Savior and we will see him again.

Walter’s legacy lives on in the family he cherished, the friends he loved, the lives he touched, and the genuine faith he exhibited in his daily walk with the Lord.
