Wallace "Neal" Dyer, age 87, passed away peacefully on May 30,2026, leaving behind a legacy defined by honor, integrity, and a lifetime of flight.

Born in New Orleans, Louisiana, and raised in Natchez, Mississippi, Neal's lifelong journey of service and skill began in August of 1958 when he joined the Naval Cadet Program. His remarkable military career spanned over two decades, including 12 and a half years in the reserves. He retired from active duty as the Commanding Officer of the A-4 Marine Attack Squadron, VMA-134. Throughout his military service, Neal achieved a stunning 4,500 accident-free flight hours, piloting the T-34B, T-28, F-9Fseries, F-11F. F-8U series, and the A-4 series.

Neal carried his profound passion for aviation into commercial skies, flying with Continental Airlines for 42 distinguished years. Over his commercial career, he logged an incredible 24,000 accident-free and violation-free hours, captaining the B-707 series, B-727 series, MD-DC-10, B-737 series, B-757-200, and the B-767-200/400.

His flawless record in the cockpit stood as a testament to his sharp intellect, hard work, and unwavering commitment to excellence.

Neal is survived by his beloved wife, Cheryl; his son, Sean; his daughter, Laura; and his stepdaughter, Jennifer. He remains a guiding light to his granddaughter, Alicia, and his 13 step-grandchildren.

Neal lived his life with the true spirit of a pilot-always looking toward the horizon, moving with grace, and commanding respect through his quiet integrity. He will be deeply missed, forever revered, and always loved by the family, friends, and fellow aviators whose lives he touched so profoundly.

A committal service with military honors will be held at Miramar National Cemetery [San Diego, CA] on Monday, June 15th, 2026, at 1:15.
