Obituary

Virginia ‘Ginny’ Ferguson, 81, of Bay Shore, NY, beloved mother and grandmother, passed away at 1:59 PM on September 1, 2016. Ginny fell seriously ill suddenly in the early morning hours on August 30th, and passed two days later at Saddleback Memorial Medical Center. She was surrounded at her death by her loving family and caring nurses.

Ginny was born on August 24, 1935, and was raised in Bayshore and Fire Island, NY. She graduated from Central Islip State Hospital School of Nursing and was a practicing operating room nurse for over 35 years. In addition to her nursing career, Ginny took great joy and pride in her children and grandchildren. Ginny lived in NY, Wilmington, NC and later in life in Mission Viejo, Southern California.

Ginny is survived by her children Linda Alimi, Cindy Braunstein, Robert Ferguson, Warren Ferguson, and Todd Ferguson, as well as eleven grandchildren and her siblings Beverly Quackenbush and Doug Brewster. All who knew her were blessed by her warm smile and loving nature. She was thoughtful, kind, and considerate. Her love of animals, especially dogs and birds, led her to provide foster care to rescue animals while living in Southern California, since she was no longer able to care for her own pets long term.

Services will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday September 10, 2016 at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Rancho Santa Margarita, CA. There will be a viewing on the preceding Friday from 6-8 PM at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills. The burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Bay Shore, NY on Tuesday, September 13 at 12:30pm; final arrangements are being made for the burial by Overton Funeral Home, 172 Main St., Islip, NY.
