Obituary
Beloved wife passed away peacefully February 8, 2005. Born in Clayton, IL in 1921 she moved to California after graduating from High School. Worked at Douglas and North American Aircraft prior to going into the medical field, her great love for over 40 years. She was office manager at Blue Shield-Blue Cross in Los Angeles prior to working for Dr. Fritz Westerhoud, MD in Manhattan Beach for 17 years.
It was during this time she met the love of her life, her current husband and they were married upon his return from Vietnam in 1970 and they resided at Edwards AFB until his retirement from the USAF in 1972. Shortly afterwards they moved to Palm Desert when she got involved in Tumor Registry at Eisenhower and Desert Hospitals.
Upon returning to Orange County in 1978 she resided in Irvine for 28 years. During that time she worked at both the Long Beach VA and Long Beach Memorial Hospitals prior to retirement.
At that time she got involved in China Painting for the last 25 years and developed a great talent for painting. She also loved taking care of her hummingbirds, house, cooking, cruising and traveling with her husband.
She will be greatly missed by her loving husband of 34 years, Edward Smolenski, sister Curtta Pottle and stepdaughter, Mary Morrison, living in the Netherlands. She was preceded in death by her mother, father and sister. She also leaves behind many relatives in California and Illinois and numerous friends.
Memorial Service will be held at the Groves Mobil Home Park Clubhouse, 5200 Irvine Blvd., Irvine at 11:00 AM Friday, Feb 18, 2005.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to St. Joseph Hospital Hospice, Orange, California

Grandma Vesta was a wonderful person and was a big part of my life growing up in San Diego. She was a wonderful artist and created many lasting memories for myself and my family. I will always love and remember her fondly.
