Verna Mae Dorman, 94

Beloved mother and grandmother, Verna Mae Dorman, 94, died May 18, 2014, in Laguna Hills, CA.

A former long-term resident of Meridian, Mrs. Dorman was born October 22, 1919 in Newton County, Mississippi, to John Cleveland and Carrie Delma (Grantham) Huddleston.

She was valedictorian of her Center Ridge 1938 high school graduating class where she was an athlete, beauty queen, and active in theatre. She majored in English in college, and married Roy L. Dorman on March 7, 1941, a captain in the United States Army in World War II. After 60 years of marriage, Mr. Dorman predeceased her in 2001.

She was a devoted Sunday school teacher at Westwood Baptist Church in Meridian before the death of her husband and her relocation back to California. She was a talented quilter, artist, and cook, and was kind, loving, and caring to all.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Van Medina of Tustin, CA; daughter and son-in-law Sheila Merrill and Marvin Bonta of Mission Viejo, CA; daughter Belinda Dorman of Bakersfield, CA; daughter and son-in- law Deborah Dorman-Rodriguez and James Rodriguez of Chicago, IL; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Roy Dorman and Irene Hwang-Dorman of Rancho Santa Margarita, CA; and grandchildren Danielle Medina Walters, Kurt Walters, Ryan Medina, Nicholas Gordon, Alexander Rodriguez, Luke Dorman, and Matthew Dorman. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Christopher Gordon, and an infant son, Roy Larry Dorman. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Services will be held on Saturday, May 24, 2014, at 1 p.m. at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Parkway, Laguna Hills, CA. Burial will take place at El Toro Memorial Park, Lake Forest, CA.
