Twyla Kay Zerwas, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and educator, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2026, at the age of 82 in Laguna Niguel, California. Born on May 28, 1944, in Illinois, Twyla was a beacon of compassion and selflessness throughout her life.

Twyla's career spanned years as a dedicated registered nurse before she found her true calling as a teacher, a role she embraced for over 37 years. Her profound commitment to the education and well-being of her students reflected her innate capacity to nurture and uplift others. She spent her days imparting knowledge and kindness, and her warmth touched the lives of countless children.

Family was paramount to Twyla. She shared 59 years of marriage with her beloved husband, David Zerwas, building a life together centered on love, family, and devotion. She is survived by David; her devoted son, Nicholas Zerwas, and his wife, Morgan; her cherished daughter, Jessica Brockardt, and her husband, Chad; and her six adored grandchildren.

Twyla poured her heart into her family, often prioritizing their needs above her own. Her generosity was boundless, extending not only through her love and encouragement but also through the tangible ways she supported those she loved. She took great pride in helping her grandchildren pursue their college dreams, ensuring they had the support and opportunities they needed to succeed.

Despite facing her own battles, including a long-standing struggle with breast cancer, Twyla radiated positivity. She inspired those around her with her unwavering spirit and was often found helping her neighbors with technical issues at Crestavilla, where she lived and served on the Advisory Board. Even while navigating challenges of her own, Twyla continued to look for ways to help others. Her thoughtfulness and generosity left a profound impact on her family, friends, neighbors, students, and community.

Twyla Kay Zerwas will be remembered for her indomitable spirit, compassion, generosity, and loving nature. Through the family she treasured, the students she taught, the neighbors she helped, and the many people whose lives were made better simply by knowing her, Twyla leaves behind a beautiful legacy of kindness and love.

A Memorial Service honoring Twyla’s life will be held on Saturday, October 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. in the sanctuary at South Shores Church, 32712 Crown Valley Parkway, Dana Point, California 92629. Following the service, family and friends are invited to gather for a reception in the Ocean Room to continue sharing memories and celebrating Twyla’s remarkable life.
