Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Squiers, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, teacher, and coach, who left this life far too soon on June 8, 2025.
Tom dedicated his life to nurturing both minds and hearts. As an educator/manager/trainer for 40+ years, he touched countless lives with his patience, wisdom, and unwavering belief in his students’ potential. His classroom was a place of discovery and growth, where he skillfully balanced academic rigor with compassion and understanding.
On the field/track/court, Coach Squiers transformed young athletes into confident individuals who understood the true meaning of teamwork, perseverance, and sportsmanship. His coaching philosophy extended far beyond winning games—he coached life, instilling values that his teams carry with them to this day.
At home, Tom was the foundation of his family. To his wife Kay, he was a devoted partner and best friend for 53 years. Their love story inspired all who witnessed it. To his son, he was both guide and confidant, teaching through example the importance of integrity, kindness, and pursuing one’s passions. His grandchildren were the light of his later years, and he embraced his role as “Papa” with unmatched enthusiasm and joy.
Tom approached life with remarkable energy and curiosity. He found joy in scuba diving, gardening, working around the house, and coaching. His generous spirit, infectious laugh, and ability to find humor even in difficult times endeared him to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Though taken from us too soon, Tom’s legacy lives on in the lessons he taught, the lives he shaped, and the love he shared so generously. He is survived by his wife Kay; his son Dan Squiers and daughter-in-law Kimbra Squiers; his grandson Tucker Squiers and granddaughter-in-law Maeve Squiers; and his granddaughter Jordyn Squiers. He is also survived by his brothers John Squiers and Larry Squiers, along with numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A memorial service celebrating Tom’s extraordinary life will be held on July 18, 2025, at San Francisco Solano Church located at 22082 Antonio Parkway, Rancho Santa Margarita. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Alzheimer’s/Parkinson’s foundation in his honor.
The world is dimmer without his light, but his impact continues to shine in all who knew and loved him.
