Obituary

Terrence Patrick Malone, beloved husband, father, son, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on March 17th, St. Patrick’s Day, after a heroic eighteen month battle with cancer. His wife and family were at his side. Terry was 49 years old.
Terry was a lifelong resident of Southern California, born in Los Angeles and growing up in Fountain Valley, he graduated from Fountain Valley High School and attended Cal State University Long Beach. After college, Terry settled in Leucedia, until he moved back to Orange County in 2002, living in Irvine.
Terry was a true ‘Renaissance man,’with wide ranging talents and interests, and successes in a number of fields. He began his working life as a partner in a construction business, then made a successful career in the technology industry. Always a man who followed his heart, Terry’s passion for learning had recently led him to pursue training to become a high school math teacher.
Terry loved politics, sports, music, and film. He loved conversation and the exchange of ideas, and always relished a good spirited debate on any topic!
His life long passions were spending time with his daughter Casey, music, reading, all kinds of sports, and enjoying his family and friends. One of his favorite excursions was an annual familyreuinon to Lake Tahoe, where Terry would rally family members of all ages to join in spirited games of Scrabble, Cribbage, Pinochle and Uno, or find an adventure roller blading, hiking on the ski slopes, or visiting local sites.
In addition to many caring friends, Terry is survived and loved by his wife, Connie, daughter Casey, stepsons Mark, Tyler, and Jason, his mother Betty Badgett, his sibilings, Kathy Leeks, Tom Malone, Traci Malone and Adam Badgett, and his nephews and nieces, T.D. and Molly Malone, Stephanie and Brad Leeks, and Alicia, Brooke, and Lindsay Badgette. Terry’s legacy is one of love, laughter, courage, and kindness shared with all those whose lives were touched by him. Terry’s family wishes to express their gratitude to the Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and the UCI Medical Center for their wonderful care and supporr over the past eighteen months.

  1. Dear Connie,

We are so sad that you lost Terry. You were always so upbeat and hopeful, characteristics that must have made an enormous difference in his life.

    Love,

  2. I’ve met some of the Malone relatives through our Tolsby website, and I wish I could have known Terry personally. It’s obvious that many people loved and admired him.

I’d like to share some family history with his daughter so she has a sense of one of the threads that makes her, her!

Anders Anderson Tolsby was born in Rakkestad, Norway in 1835 and married Johanne Olsen, from Rokke, Norway in 1864. They had 9 children; 7 were born in Norway and the last two in North Dakota. One of their children was named Elise Lizzy Johanne Tolsby who married Merton J. Nash in 1895 Rugby, ND, and had two children Olive and Jay.
Olive married Charles Lamoreux 1928 in Dunseith, ND and they had two children, Elizabeth your grandma and Charles. You do have relatives in Portland, OR, from Charles’ branch, and I hope you’ll get to know some of them if you don’t already. You have wonderful family of Norwegian descent…it’s a proud heritage of hard working people who care deeply about family….a great legacy!

My thoughts and prayers are with you and the others.

    Dear Connie,

My heart goes out to you. Although I never had the pleasure of meeting Terry, he must surely have been a wonderful man because he married a wonderful woman. I know he brought great joy and happiness into your life, and I wish the two of you could have enjoyed many years together. I wish you courage as you move ahead, and I hope that cherishing the memories of the time you did share with Terry will bring comfort.

    With love and affection,

    Karen

Upon reflections of many journeys taken,
Rue the day that adversity does not grace us with its presence,
Only through the fires of trial is strength forged and character molded,
And in these moments of struggle, does the true nature of a friend appear.

Adversities path, traveled alone, is fraught with peril,
but a family’s bond is formed of strangers when the journey is taken together.
The most memorable ones are those started with a most quirky cast of characters,
Only to find that at the end of the adventure, beats the same heart, and burns the same soul.

    Friends we all have become.
    Some old and some new,
And although our sojourns may move us along different roads,
We all travel the same path as we are bonded as friends.

Terry, has moved on to next great stage of the journey. He will be missed but never forgotten. May your debates with the Almighty be as fun as they were with your friends here. You will be missed.

  5. Since I am Terry’s big sister, I had the honor and privilege of knowing him through out his entire life journey. I always recognized him as a human being of very exceptional character, but I was not aware of the influence and impact that this remarkable man had on so many people until his passing. I was overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and respect that was expressed by so many people at Terry’s services. The heartfelt reflections here in this guest book will provide comfort to us all for many years to come. There is a common thread that runs through these reflections; Terry’s sense of humanity, his generosity, and the laughter and good will he shared with everyone in his life. Clearly, all of us are better human beings for having known and loved Terry, a mna with a huge heart and amazing depth of spirit. You will live on in my heart always, brother, and I’ll see you on the other side.
    Love,
    Kathy
