TEDDY JACK MAYFIELD
February 1, 1936-July 30, 2013

Teddy Jack Mayfield was born on February 1, 1936, in Plainview, Texas, to Alvie (Dick) and Lillian Mayfield of Silverton, Texas. Jack grew up west of Silverton in the Rock Creek Community on the Mayfield Ranch that was homesteaded by Gid Mayfield in 1891. He attended the Silverton Public Schools and graduated in 1953. In 1956, he received his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agriculture Education from Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas. Jack began his teaching career in October of 1957 as the Ag Ed teacher at Silverton High School.

Jack married Hope Diane Fogerson of Silverton, Texas on April 14, 1960. Jack taught Ag Ed at SHS from 1957 to June 30, 1965, when he and Diane moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico, for Jack to attend the University of New Mexico’s Pharmacy School. He received his BS in Pharmacy in June 1968 and worked for Furr’s Pharmacy in Albuquerque, New Mexico. On August 11, 1970, Jack and Diane’s daughter Hope Elana was born in Presbyterian Hospital in Albuquerque, New Mexico. After two more years in New Mexico, Jack, Diane, and Elana moved to Gassville, Arkansas, where Jack was a Relief Pharmacist for Manhart Drug in Yellville, AR, Baker Drug in Mountain Home, AR, Baker Drug in Gainsville, MO, and Yellville General Hospital in Yellville, AR. Jack was also a Consulting Pharmacist’s for eight different Nursing Homes in North AR. After eighteen years of being a Pharmacist in Arkansas, and Missouri, Jack became a Civil Service Pharmacist at Fort Leonard Wood Army Hospital in Missouri. He worked there for two years and then moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where he was a Civil Service Pharmacist at Fort Carson Army Hospital. From 1991 to 1997 Jack lived in MO and CO, while Diane stayed in Gassville, AR, where she taught English at Calico Rock High School for one year and was the Business Teacher and FBLA Adviser for Cotter High School for 24 years, the District VI Future Business Leaders of America Coordinator for 13 years and retired in 1997. They experienced a “Long-Distance Marriage”, being together at Christmas Holidays and Summer Vacations. Jack retired from Pharmacy work in early 2000 and he and Diane moved back to the Mayfield Ranch west of Silverton, Texas.

In 2009, Jack and Diane bought a small apartment in Laguna Woods, CA, and traveled back and forth between Texas and California. For Christmas 2011, they went back to CA to be with their Daughter’s family for Christmas and be there at the apartment for several months; however, on January 10, 2012, Jack was hospitalized and when he was dismissed, he could not walk. He was under the care of Home Health until October when he was hospitalized again. He was then transferred to Golden Years Senior Board ‘N Care home in Mission Viejo, CA, where he passed away on July 30, 2013.

Jack is survived by his wife of 53 years, Diane, and their daughter, Elana Mayfield Krueger, her husband, Christian, and their children Venture and Quest Mayfield Krueger from Ladera Ranch, CA. He is also survived by cousins Wayne Mayfield and wife Joni, Zane Mayfield and wife Kim of Silverton, TX, Julia Jane Dickerson Rauche and husband Marshall of Lubbock, TX, Gail Wyatt and husband John of Amarillo, TX, Becky Woods of Amarillo, TX, Don Thomas and wife of Kansas; and his sister-in-law, Nell Williams. Jack was preceded in death by his parents, Alvie and Lillian Mayfield, and a brother Dickie Lee Mayfield and his grandparents Gid and Mona Mayfield and Bobby and Rilla Dickerson.

Open visitation will be at the Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Silverton on all day Friday August 9th and with the family at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Services will be held at the Silverton First United Methodist Church on August 10th at 2:00 PM. Rance Young, Pastor First United Methodist Church, Wayne Nance, Silverton, TX; and Jerry Beck, Quiteque, TX are officiating. Burial will be at the Silverton, TX, Cemetery.
