Suzanne "Sue" Kesterson McWayne, 83, of Laguna Niguel, California, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, August 13, 2026.
Sue was born on November 21, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio, to Dorothy and Malcolm Kesterson. She grew up in Wyoming, Ohio, graduating high school from Ursuline Academy. She then attended the University of Cincinnati, earning an associate's degree, and began teaching elementary school.
Sue married Richard "Kim" McWayne, and together they built a life in Wyoming, Ohio, and Deerfield, Illinois, eventually settling in Laguna Hills, California, in 1979 with their three children, Kelley, Sean, and Kevin, and later moving to Laguna Niguel.
She graduated from California State University, Fullerton, with a bachelor's degree in sociology, followed by a master's degree in social work from the University of Southern California. Sue was also an avid tennis player and active for many years with the Cabaret Guild of the Segerstrom Center for the Arts in Costa Mesa, California.
Sue was a gifted volunteer, teacher, entrepreneur, and social worker. Although dedicated to her profession, her true passion was spending time with her family and friends. Always ready to lend a word of wisdom or just listen, her compassion for friends, family, and even strangers was incredible. Sue especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, never missing one of their many games and shows. Her favorite saying was, "My love never divides, it only multiplies."
Sue is survived by her children, Kelley Kennedy (m. Sean Kennedy), Sean McWayne, and Kevin McWayne (m. Dawn McWayne); grandchildren, Keelan, April, Connor, Caroline, and Braeden; and her brother, Ken Kesterson (m. Sue Kesterson).
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard "Kim" McWayne, in 1990, as well as her parents, Dorothy and Malcolm.
A funeral and celebration of life will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, located at 29102 Crown Valley Parkway, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677, with a reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 in Sue's memory. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.
