Obituary

Suzanne Lee Liechty, née Dykzeul, aged 70, passed away on Saturday, March 8, at Irvine Medical Center after her long fight with heart disease.

Suzanne, “Susie”, was born on October 24, 1943 in Pasadena, CA, and graduated from St. Andrew’s High School in 1961. In 1965 she graduated from Pasadena City College with an LVN degree. While working at her first job as a LVN at Arcadia Methodist Hospital, Susie met John working in the ER and they were married in 1968. After her four children were born, Susie worked for many years at Sierra Madre Skilled Nursing Facility. In 2001, she moved to the Newport Beach area to work for her son, Dan’s and son-in-law, Scott’s family business.

Susie cherished her family above all else and was a loving mother to Dan, Amy, Mandy, and Carrie; a kind and thoughtful mother-in-law to Beth, Scott, and Eric; the world’s best grandmother to Jake, Eli, Ben, Cassidy, Reilly, Mallory, Mario, Marissa, Makayla, Taylor, and Ethan; and caring sister to Julie. Susie will be fondly remembered by the many nieces, nephews, aunts, cousins, and friends whose lives she has touched with love and support.

Susie is preceded in death by her beloved mother and father, Mary Jane and Theodore Dykzeul; her brother, John Dykzeul; and her former husband, John Liechty.

Although we already miss her terribly, we are comforted by the memories that we will cherish forever and will never forget her fierce loyalty for her family, her quick sense of humor, and the wonderful down-to-earth philosophy with which she approached life.

A celebration of Susie’s life will be held at Halecrest Park Clubhouse at 3107 Killybrooke Lane in Costa Mesa on Sunday, March 23 at 3:00 p.m.

  1. Dear Danny Amy Mandy & Carrie…..my name is JoAnne n I recently found out about the death of Susie…..how suprised n shocked I am regarding this sad sad news! Susie n I worked together at Sierra Madre Skilled Nursing for many years, but I knew her much longer than those years…I met her when I was working nextdoor at the doctor’s office, and I liked her from the beginning. My heart lights up when I think of the many hrs we spent together while at work, on r breaks n after work as well. When the Nursing Center closed n Susie moved away we would find time to meet up n have dinner together n just catch up with each other’s lives. I so truly miss her presence her sense of humor and always her laugh! She listened so intently to everyone’s dilemma without judgment and never failed to advise you on a solution…she was a magnificent lady n I loved her dearly…n I miss her. My sincere condolences on Susie’s passing n even though she has been gone for over 3 yrs now she will always be here in my heart! I miss her a lot…….as I’m sure you do to this day!!!!!
