Obituary

Susan Koenker, 83, of Newport Beach, passed away October 20, 2023 with her family by her side.

She was born to the late Mack and Maxine Healy, December 12, 1939 in Bradford Pennsylvania. Susan graduated from Villa Maria College and received a BA in nursing. After graduation, Susan landed her first job at the acclaimed Columbia Presbyterian New York Medical Center where she broadened her professional expertise and enjoyed young adulthood in the NYC area with her good friends Paula and Kathy. It was clear to everyone who knew Susan that she would rise to great heights professionally, personally and geographically. After New York, She lived and worked in San Francisco at UCSF. Later, she settled in Long Beach, CA where she worked as a Coronary Care Intensive Care Unit nurse for twenty years.

She met the love of her life, Rolf J Koenker MD, and they were happily married for 45 years. Their family home was in Long Beach, CA from 1974 to 1997 where they raised Ralph Koenker (son) and Elizabeth Koenker Pacitti (daughter). In later years, 1998 to 2020, Susan and Rolf lived in Newport Beach. Susan’s final years were in Rancho Bernardo where she lived near her sister Kathleen.

She is survived by her son, Ralph Koenker (Tonya) of Corte Madera, and two grandchildren, Andrea Koenker and Max Koenker. Susan is also survived by her siblings Marian Lahey of Chicago IL, Joan Raabe of Bradford PA, Barbara Mosier of Charlotte NC, Kathleen Beeman of Rancho Bernardo CA, Stephen Healy of Camino CA, Susan was predeceased by her loving husband, Rolf Koenker in 2018 and daughter Elizabeth Koenker and her brothers Kevin Healy and Mack Healy, Jr.

Susan Koenker, beloved mother and sister shall continue to live on in the cherished memories of all who knew and loved her.

Funeral Mass is planned for December 1, 2023 in Rancho Bernardo. Her final resting place will be Forest Lawn Cypress CA. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Heart Association.
