Obituary

Steven William Dietsch
March 19, 1956 – July 27, 2016

I lost my best friend and soul mate and my sons’ lost the best father, teacher, coach a son could ever hope to have. Steven “Deeco” William Dietsch was born in Milwaukee, WI on March 19, 1956. After a two-year battle cancer took the strongest man I had the good fortune to have as my husband of 26 years on July 27, 2016.

Steve grew up in Two Rivers, WI and attended University of North Dakota with a full ride athletic scholarship for football. After graduation he rode his motorcycle to California to start his career at Wausau Insurance in the underwriting department. Steve left Wausau to begin his successful 34-year career as a salesman in the auto insurance industry.

In 1990 he married his underwriter, Janet Marie Goggins, in San Clemente, CA. In 1992 they made their home in Mission Viejo, CA. After ten years of fun they were blessed with three sons; Nicholas Steven (5/11/01) and twin brothers Cole Martin and Connor William (6/5/03). His family was his life and he devoted 100% of himself to their care and happiness. His passing has left an empty space in the hearts of all who knew him, especially in the baseball community of Mission Viejo and the surrounding cities.

He is also survived by his mother Barbara Dietsch of Mission Viejo, brother Gary Dietsch of Ann Arbor, MI (Jeanne), sister Debra Hellie (Mike) of Chelsea, MI and nephews Justin and Zach Hellie. He was preceded in death by his father William Dietsch. He is also survived by Janet’s large (too many to name) family who loved and will miss him for the rest of their lives.

  1. I got to know Steve from across the baseball diamond as opposing coaches. I loved the passion he brought to the field as he coached his boys. We had the chance to talk before, in between, and after games on several occasions and I could tell how much he loved being involved with the kids. It’s been good to see Nick, Conner and Cole continue in their love of baseball I’m sure playing with heavy hearts at times. My hope for the boys is that they continue play ball with the passion their dad had for the game always remembering he is with them in spirit. You will be missed coach. We will continue to pray for Dietsch family.

  2. Jim McNamara says:

Steve was one of the kindest and most generous men I had the privilege of working with. 20 years ago, he let my family and me use his house in Bullhead City for a vacation…that trip began an amazing journey of boating and river trips for our family, and our children remember that trip–and Steve–to this day. God Bless you, Janet, and your beautiful children.

Steve was one of the “good ones”. Behind his gruff exterior was a gentle, generous man. The time he devoted to his children and family left a lasting impression. I met him when my son, Mason, joined the Blackhawks. Steve made the transition from Little League seem easy. He took Mason under his wing and made him a better player and person. He alway made time to help Mason. He genuinely cared about all the boys and strove to make them better people. He made all of us part of his family, unconditionally. I will miss him greatly. Goodbye #61

  4. Steve was a proud, honest, hard working, loyal, and courageous man with a generous heart. Steve’s devotion, love, and commitment to his family was inspiring:heart: Steve’s love for his sons was abiding and unconditional. He was their greatest teacher, and prepared them to not just survive but thrive in the world. Steve was a blessing and I am grateful for his friendship. Prayers of comfort, strength, and grace to Janet and the boys. Rest eternally in peace Steve:pray::raised_hands:

  5. I was so devastated to learn this news today. Steve saved my company. After an unlucky bad accident early in our history nobody would insure us. Someone told me to call Steve and I did. It seemed impossible, I had been turned down by everyone in the industry, many of whom I had called many times. But Steve got in there and found a way to make things happen, and with literally hours left before I had to shut everything down, he found an insurance carrier willing to give us a shot. Ten years later we have offices all over the US, and a large team of people who all their jobs to Steve making it happen. I will be forever grateful for Steve, and will never ever forget him. Love to Janet and his boys. Please do not hesitate to call me if you ever need anything. We gave Steve a van for a trip he took with the boys once, it would be an honor to do it again anytime your family may want to go on a road trip.
