Obituary
Steven Spearman was a beloved father to Reese, Rylie and Rhea, cherished son to Jean and Cecil, and wonderful brother to Mark and Scott. His passing on June 25th, after battling a long illness, has our hearts forever broken. His presence with his mom, who passed just last year, is comforting and yet the void of his absence in our lives will be immeasurable. He will be dearly missed.
The highlight of Steve’s life was his three daughters. They meant everything to him. He loved spending time with them and together they built wonderful memories in “father-daughter” Adventure Guides, their special birthday dinners and Sunday afternoon family barbecues. He spent time on the court with the girls, teaching them to play tennis, and loved bringing them to the annual LNRC open houses, as well as summer parties and holiday events the club would host (where you’d most likely see Steve’s eyes twinkle behind the Santa or Easter bunny costume).
He thoroughly enjoyed including his daughters in what was the second most important thing to him…the family’s tennis and fitness business. Steve began his career as an auditor at Deloitte after receiving his undergraduate degree in accounting at the University of California and his MBA from Duke University, but his heart was always set on joining the family business. His education and CPA license served him well as CFO of Spearman Industries where he dedicated his life to the financial, business, and IT aspects of running the tennis clubs.
Steve was also passionate about his college teams, attending USC football games as a season ticket holder for many years, and watching Duke basketball with his mom or catching a game in person. He enjoyed golf and for years had a weekly 7am Sunday morning ‘Greenie’ competition with his brother Mark and two good friends. He also made great memories with his dad on the golf course at El Niguel, as well as on the ski slopes in Mammoth where the family had annual winter vacations (Steve was an incredibly accomplished alpine skier….hands down the best in the family). Steve loved to read and had a profound zeal for photography, creating dozens of enlarged and beautifully framed pictures for his family, friends, parents, nieces & nephews. He was the master at capturing precious moments in time of family togetherness, landscapes of meaningful venues and the kids’ in action at each of their childhood sporting events.
He was an amazing dad, loyal son, loving brother, devoted uncle and good friend.
