Steven Montell Johnson
April 28, 1961 – June 27, 2026
Steven Montell Johnson passed away peacefully in Irvine, California, on June 27, 2026, following complications from lung cancer. He was 65 years old.
Steve was a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose sense of humor, love of music, and easygoing spirit left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
He is survived by his daughters, Michelle Johnson and her husband, Mike Paletz, of Cypress, California, and Ashley Aleman and her husband, Anthony Aleman, of Mill Creek, Washington. Steve was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Aiden Aleman, Mia Aleman, Luke Aleman, Mayer Paletz, and Maddox Paletz. His grandchildren brought him immense joy, and some of his favorite memories were the moments they shared together.
Steve had a passion for life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time at the ocean, cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs, fishing, watching race cars, listening to and playing music on his guitar, and gathering around a poker table, where he proudly earned the nickname "Chips." A lifelong Batman fan, he never outgrew his appreciation for the Caped Crusader. He especially enjoyed family outings to Carlos Restaurant and visiting the Dana Point Harbor with his grandchildren, creating memories they will cherish forever.
Born in San Pedro, California, Steve was the son of JoAnn Ogg and Albert Johnson. He shared a special bond with his beloved grandparents, Ruth and Monty Ogg, who played an important role in his childhood. The many trips and adventures they took together became treasured memories that remained close to his heart throughout his life.
Steve is also survived by his three older brothers: Greg Johnson of Pennsylvania, Ken Johnson of Nevada, and Ray Johnson of Kansas. He was preceded in death by his youngest brother, Pete Kotorakos, who passed away in 2021.
Steve will be remembered for his love of family, his passion for music, his quick wit, and his ability to make those around him laugh in any situation. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.
