Obituary

Steven Michael Triolo Sr., 68, of Aliso Viejo, California, passed away from complications of end stage renal disease on July 4, 2017. Steve was in his home and surrounded by his family. He passed away peacefully and was not afraid of death, facing his own with courage.

Steve was born in Los Angeles, California on March 6, 1949. He was the youngest of three children of Bernard and Rose Triolo. Steve is survived by his wife, Korine of 49 years; son, Steven (Jayashri) Triolo Jr.; daughter, Jennifer (Thomas) Legault; and sister, Ann Kaighin. He was blessed with four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

Steve worked in the grocery industry for over 35 years. After leaving the grocery industry, Steve landed his favorite job of all time as an assistant editor for Cat Fancy magazine with Bowtie Publications. While working there he developed a love for cats. Additionally, Steve’s lifelong passion was music. He not only played various musical instruments, but also played in bands, collected records and wrote music/record reviews. During this time, he was able to meet and interview some of his favorite rock musicians.

Steve will be remembered for his humor, gentle nature, listening to others with compassion and his kindness. Steve was devoted to his friends and family. In 1993, Steve gave one of the greatest gifts a person can give to another, he donated a kidney to his older brother John.

A funeral mass will be held to celebrate Steven Triolo’s life on August 7, 2017, at 9:00am and a reception will be held immediately after. Please join us at (funeral mass & reception): St. Nicholas Parish, 24252 El Toro Rd., Laguna Woods, CA 92637.

I first met Steve at the young age of 18. I was working night crew at Ralphs and he was my boss. I used to sit on a milk crate to stock the bottom shelves and then slide down the aisle. He would walk by and say, “come on… Slug!” After that, it kind of stuck, until I got a new position working daytime hours, instead of the night shift when I would have rather been sleeping! He was very gracious to me. I then found out that he had a used record store and so I would go over there and collect records of bands that I liked. It was always interesting talking with Steve, as he was so knowledgeable about music. He was also a gentle soul and felt like a genuine friend to me. A few years later, I was getting ready to marry my husband (of now, 23 years, Jim king) and discovered that he was good friends with both Steve and Korine!! THAT WAS AMAZING AND AWESOME! I am happy to say that over these years we have maintained our friendship with this special couple, have considered them great friends, and held them both close to our hearts for years. Korine, we are here for you anytime, and Steve, you will always bring a smile to our faces whenever we re-live any or all of our fond memories we have shared with you over all of these years.
Thanks for being a great friend.
    Love always,
    Jim and Kim King

  2. Big Steve was a sweet man and together Korine and Steve were a great couple. I worked with Korine since 1988 and got to know her wonderful family. I remember when big Steve started working for the Cat Magazine and thought, now that must be a fun job! Korine you are a dear friend and you can count on me for anything you need. Love, Stacie

  5. Gratitude for Steven Triolo’s kindness through the years. We connected when he edited CatFancy. He wanted to interview one of my clients’a famous musician. His initial conversation gave me deep insight on the artist’s connection with cats!

Steve, too, had connections with cats and cat lovers. One day I asked him if I could send a term paper I wrote about cats for him to read. He said “sure!” The next thing that happened was I received an assignment to write for the magazine!

After he left the magazine, we continued to compare notes and cats and music. Sometimes he did little projects for me. When he visited New York City, I took him out to see one of my musicians’Joe Deninzon, and we had a relaxing time in the Big Apple, walking around and rocking!

Through the years Steve and his family helped many of my friends, and was always supportive.

All my best to the Triolos. Thank you for your kindness.
