Obituary
Steven Anthony Cook
March 4, 1961 – September 13, 2025
Steven Anthony Cook, a loving and beloved, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 13, 2025, in Lake Forest, California, at the age of 64.
Born on March 4, 1961, in Bakersfield, California, Steve lived life with energy, humor, and heart. He was anything but quiet — the life of the party, always ready with a joke, a smile, and a big hug. He had a way of making everyone feel like family and never missed a chance to check in with a phone call or visit, just to chat and see how you were doing.
Steve is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Cook; his children Tanner Cook and wife Chloe, Noah Cook and wife Charlotte Thurane-Cook, and Andrew Cook and his significant other Nicole Phan. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Lila Cook, who brought him immeasurable joy.
He also leaves behind his sister Bonnie and her husband Jack Kimble, his brothers Pete Cook and Bill Cook with wife Terry, and his nieces Jennifer Howard, Jackie Kimble, Mary Cook, Jean Cook, and Shannon and her husband Mike Pulte — all of whom he loved dearly.
Steve found joy in the simple pleasures: playing golf with his three boys and his buddies, listening to music, going to concerts, and playing fastpitch softball — a sport he loved and played passionately. He had a deep appreciation for connection, laughter, and time spent with the people he loved.
After retiring from a leadership position as well as owning and operating a franchise in the tax services industry for 25 years, Steve continued making an impact by coaching both children and adults in golf and giving back to his community.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Santiago De Compostela Catholic Church, 21682 Lake Forest Dr. Lake Forest, CA 92630 on Friday, September 26th at 11:00 AM, where friends and family will gather to celebrate a life lived fully and with love.
Steve’s final resting place will be in Bakersfield, CA near his father, William Cook, where his immediate family will have a private service.
Steve will be remembered for his warmth, humor, and unwavering presence in the lives of those he cared about. Though he is no longer with us, his spirit lives on in the laughter of his grandchild, the strength of his children and beloved wife, and the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
If you would like to contribute to the service, the family kindly asks that flowers be sent to O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills by September 25th — or consider honoring Steve’s legacy with a donation to your favorite youth sports organization.

I admired Steve for his high intelligence but especially his empathy. We worked together, later he was my superior. He was always willing to listen, and always positive, looking forward. My condolences to his family, and to all the many people he touched in his life! He shone brightly among us!

To Kathy and family,
All blessings and comfort to you and your family.
Few leaders are remembered for their integrity, kindness, and wisdom. Steve was the embodiment of these virtues. I learned so much from him, his advice was always on point. We all benefited from his leadership. he operated with patience, sharing a cheerful outlook at all times. I am ever thankful for the opportunity to have worked with Steve at the helm. May he rest forever with the Lord.
