Obituary

Steve Huang was born in Pu-Li, Taiwan, on August 25th, 1958 to Shao-Yao Huang (father) and Wei-Tz Hu (mother). Steve is the youngest of four children in this middle class family of two boys and two girls. Due to his father’s job relocation, Steve spent his childhood in many cities, such as Pong-Hu, Ping-Dong, and Shin-Chu –all with great memories. The family eventually settled in Taipei where Steve spent his high school years.

Steve attended Tamkang University in Taiwan, majored in International Trade Business. During that time, Steve was convicted and baptized to follow Christ at age 20; he consistently did daily devotions and applied what he learned from the Bible to his life. Steve met classmate Tsai-Wei Tung and served together at college campus. Upon graduating from college and serving in the military for 2 years, Steve came to the United States and studied at the University of Detroit where in 1985 he earned a Master of Computer Science degree. Steve established his career in various companies – Compuware, Caterpillar Inc. and Plymouth Tube. His last job title was Integration Architect. During his 25-year career, Steve had many outstanding accomplishments; he loved his work and was fascinated with the evolution of technology in his lifetime.

In 1986, Steve married Tsai-Wei in Detroit, lived there briefly then moved to Peoria, IL. Both son Peter and daughter Joy were born in Peoria. In 1996, the family moved to Chicago suburb Naperville where the kids grew up and where they found long lasting friendships. Attracted by nice weather, Steve and family moved to California Orange County in 2011.

Steve enjoyed eating a lot, especially enjoyed eating with friends. He always considered “chef” as his unofficial second career. Steve was good at and loved many sports, especially Ping-Pong and tennis. He made many good friends through these sports.

Faith and family life are two focuses in Steve’s life. Wherever he lived, Steve loved to open his house to friends for Bible study and evangelism. As the spiritual head of his household, he led the family in attending a local church and conducted family worship at home, and raised his children with Biblical principles. He also served the Lord faithfully through serving people in various ministries, inside and outside of church.

During the final five years of Steve’s life, while battling colon cancer, he continued to serve the Lord without wavering. He was especially effective in evangelizing and encouraging cancer patients through sharing his experiences in faith and his cancer treatment. Nonbelievers were led to the Lord, other cancer patients were encouraged, and many lives were touched.

Steve fought the good fight; he has finished the race; he has kept the faith. Now, there is in store for him the crown of righteousness.

  2. How do I describe my friend, Steve?
    Steve is athletic.
    Steve is competitive,
Steve is a good husband, and
    Steve is a good father.
But, most importantly, all who know Steve, know that,..
Steve has an amiable tender heart –
I got to know Steve and Terri when I joined their class in the junior year of the International Trade department of Tamkang University in Taiwan. In a short while, I already knew Steve had a very sincere compassion. At that time, I already completed my military service. I was much older than most of my classmates, and had little interaction with most of them. But, Steve made sure I was not left out. He invited me to the school picnics, volleyball competitions, and ping-pong games. And, Steve was athletic, and VERY competitive. One of the little stories involved ping-pong match in our junior year. I wasn’t actually very good at playing ping-pong. He encouraged me to compete in the department match, hoping the competition would improve my game. After registration, he drove me, in his old Honda bike, to practice in his sister’s office. Well. I still lost. Not just any lost; a landslide defeat! But, from that little incident, I experienced Steve’s kind friendship.
In 83, I completed my master degree from University of Houston, and started working. Economics was bad at the time in Houston. In 86, Steve invited me to join him in Compuware. I moved my family from Houston to Detroit. And, that was 26 years ago. Time flies. I am still with the same company today.
All these, you can see he cared about all those around him. As a friend, I appreciated his kindness, his compassion, and, his friendship.

All who are familiar with Steve know that,.
    Steve loved God –
As soon as we got to Detroit, Steve introduced us to his church, Detroit Chinese Alliance Church, the church I still serve today. It’s been 26 years now. Even though, I got baptized (saved) at 14, I still lived with my old-self, a self-intoxicated life. A life had no purpose. Steve led me back to church. Through Steve, I realize that how much God loves me. He never gives up on me. When I am depressed, I find my peace in God’s home.

All who are familiar with Steve know that ,
    Steve loved his family –
In Michigan, my family got to know Steve and Terri for a few years. Right away, we knew Steve would be a good father. Before Steve became a father, I watched him playing with my son for hours. Then, they moved to Chicago for work. Steve was a perfect husband, a perfect father. He looked after all things, small or big, around the house meticulously; cutting grass, plowing snow, repairing electronics, chauffeuring kids, music lessons or school, team-up well with Terri. That’s right. Steve and Terri are a good team, always kind to each other; a truly affectionate couple deserves our admiration.
Honestly, I am still not able to accept that Steve had left us. But I am a Christian, I must wipe away my tears, knew that this is a temporary separation. And, one day, we will meet again in Haven.
