Obituary

Sterling Leonidas Sweet, 21, of Irvine CA, passed away Sunday, August 30th at his home. He was born in Bedford, TX, on March 19th, 1994 to Gordon and Elizabeth Sweet. Sterling attended University High School and attained his G.E.D. He was studying computer programming at Irvine Valley College.

Sterling was fiercely loyal. There was nothing he would not do for his friends, sharing whatever he had, always ready to cheer people up, or offer help to anyone who needed it. He once abandoned his plans for the day and travelled three hours by bus to bring home a stray kitten he had rescued from the middle of a busy street.

Sterling was preceded in death by his father Gordon L. Sweet III, and his sister Ashton H. Sweet. He is survived by his sister Rachel Sweet; his brothers Caden Sweet and Tori Fallis; and parents Elizabeth Sweet and David Pidcock.

A viewing will be held on Saturday, 12th of September between 12pm and 2pm, with a memorial on Monday, 14th of September at 7pm, at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills.

  1. Dear Lisa,

Sterling must have been a remarkable young man. I regret that I never had the chance to get to know him. My heart goes out to you in this devastating loss especially when I consider what you went through with the death of Ashton. While I did not have the chance, at least in this life, to get to know them, I know their mother. She was a very impressive young lady whom I will never forget. From your dedication and endurance as a young triathlete to your honesty and willingness to share your struggles, you left footprints on my hearts that endure. You have no idea how special you are and that is just of the things that makes you so special.

Although I buried my dad this year, I cannot imagine the grief you are experiencing. I just want you to know that you have a number of people you may not even remember who are praying for you. You serve a God who is sufficient in all things and who will, in His time and in His own way, make everything right and new. I remember a time earlier in your life when things looked totally hopeless and God provided all you needed to make your way. He will again.

I am so sorry that it took something like this for me to get in touch with you after all these years. I have thought of you many times since our days at FBC and said prayers for your success and safety. Through learning of Sterling’s death I have learned a great deal more about you and I am more impressed now than I was then. In your devastation, hurt and grief please remember that there are people you have touched along the way who are concerned about you, who love you and who support you faithfully in prayer.

At some point when you feel like it I would love to hear from you. My e-mail address and cell phone number are given below. If you do not want to reconnect I can understand. As a former youth leader it is gratifying and fulfilling to see how the kids you worked with have progressed in life. The limited vignette I have into your life so far makes me praise God for giving me the chance of being a part of your life back then. I would love to hear from you . . . but only when you are ready and if you are willing.

With all sympathy, love, compassion and confidence in my Lord to meet your need,

    Your Bro,
    His Son . . .

    Hello

I just happened to read Sterling’s obituary and felt compelled to write.

It is my hope that some thoughts from the Bible will bring you some hope, comfort and peace. It was never God’s intention that we should die. When He put Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, he also put before them the prospect of living forever happy and in good health. (Genesis 1:28)

Our creator has not given up on that original plan..perfect live on paradise earth…even though Satan, Adam and Eve messed up (Isaiah 55:10-11)

The Bible tells us that it is Satan who is responsible for death, and not God as some would tell us. (Hebrews 2:14)

Our creator Jehovah God sent his Son Jesus Christ to ransom us from death and to destroy the works of the Devil (1 John 3:8)

Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life. He that excercises faith in me will live though he dies.” (John 11:25)

With Jesus Christ enthroned as King of God’s Kingdom, resurrection of the dead – including Sterling – and a restoration of paradise on earth is assured.

It is My hope that until that time comes, you will find hope, comfort and peace in these promises from God.

    R/
