One of my fondest memories of Sophie is when I was in high school and would get new clothes. The first person I wanted to share them with would be Sophie. We had the same appreciation of clothes and possibly the same size. She was always so warm, loving, and supportive. She always called me her 3rd daughter and I felt like I was. I’m going to miss her a lot. Joy Davis

My favorite thing about Aunt Soph was her fabulous sense of humor. She used to say funny little things to me under her breath, with that mischievous smile. I also always loved how much my mom and dad loved and respected her. I think she and my mom are together now, probably sipping martini’s and discussing all the ‘kouvenda.’

What a lucky girl I am to have had you for my mom for 67 years! I am so grateful because it is a gift so many others don’t get the chance to enjoy. You were such a wonderful mom and have left me with hundreds and hundreds of precious memories. I wouldn’t know where to begin. If people look up the word “lady” in the dictionary, your picture would be next to it. You were elegant, refined, classy and wise, but always in such an approachable, down to earth way. No one could beat your style of humor. You were the queen of the well placed comment. Dad was the glitter and you were the glue. Every day, you showed me what unconditional love and kindness looks and feels like. I have never stopped learning from you and there was still so much to learn. You almost made it to 95 and, it’s crazy to think, but I thought we’d still have a lot of years left. I miss you so much already and I want to reach for the phone or come and hang out with you. Just know that every priceless memory you have left me with is in my heart forever and no one can ever take those away.
    I love you,
    ~Barbara

  4. I knew Sophie for about two and a half years. I work and reside in the building where she lived. I enjoyed our talks, her humor, and her candidness. She was such a joy to be around. She had such a genuineness about her. Seems she knew just what to say at just the right time. Seeing her in the middle of my day seemed to put an extra bounce in my walk. I’m sure going to miss my Sophie. Bye Gorgeous…

I didn’t know Sophie well but I do know her daughter Carole (Susie). Sophie had to have been a wonderful person because Carole is just like her. My husband and I were lucky enough to have spent an evening with Sophie at Carole and Wes’s 50th wedding anniversary celebration a few weeks ago and I’m so glad we had the opportunity to do that. She will be missed by all that knew and loved her. I hope the family finds peace in the fact that they had her for 95 years. Naydene and Neil Ziak
