Obituary

Shirley “Shirl” Wimert Boyle passed away peacefully in her sleep early November 23, 2012 morning after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s. To the end, she lived her life with courage, grace and good humor. She spent her last day with daughter Teri and son-in-law, Tom. She was happy, eating turkey and pecan pie, watching the Redskins whip the Cowboys. For Shirley Boyle that was a nearly perfect last day.

Shirley was extremely proud of her 26 years of service as an Army wife beside her husband Col (Ret) Dennis “Denny” M. Boyle (deceased). Together, they served their country and saw the world. In the process they built many enduring friendships, enough to fill a lifetime.

Shirley was originally from Westminster, MD and she and Denny settled in San Diego after leaving the military. She enjoyed cooking for her friends, crafts, golf, and country line dancing. She was all about doing the right thing and making it as fun as possible.

As was their wish, Shirley’s remains will be interred together with her husband Denny at Arlington National Cemetery. Due to the high number of honored veterans awaiting their final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery, interment will take place early next spring.

Shirley is survived by her daughters and their husbands; Denise Boyle and Craig Church, Teri Boyle and Tom O’Brien; her sisters and their families, Doris and Jack Jones and Darleen and Wayne Weller.

Donations in lieu of flowers for the service may be made to the Parkinson’s Association of San Diego at http://parkinsonsassociation.org/more-ways-to-give/donate-by-walk-in-mail-or-phone/

  2. Shirley is my “big” sister. One of my earliest memories is of Shirley taking me to the big city of Baltimore where we visited with Santa in a major department store. Santa gave me a Bingo set. Shirley showed everyone she met how to love and live and laugh. The bonds of sisterhood cannot be broken. She is a very classy lady, always.

Aunt Shirley was a wonderful hostess to me when I visited from Arizona. I really loved to visit and hear stories from her and Uncle Denny. As they were geographically, the closest of my family they were like an oasis in the desert!

  4. Shirl welcomed me to the family when I first dated little sister Darleen. She was our tour guide in Germany & Austria. She liked a Rob Roy as much as I did.Thanksgiving rivalries between Dallas & her beloved Redskins was always a fun time. Too many fond memories of a wonderful person.
