Obituary

Shirley “Shirl” Wimert Boyle passed away peacefully in her sleep early November 23, 2012 morning after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s. To the end, she lived her life with courage, grace and good humor. She spent her last day with daughter Teri and son-in-law, Tom. She was happy, eating turkey and pecan pie, watching the Redskins whip the Cowboys. For Shirley Boyle that was a nearly perfect last day.

Shirley was extremely proud of her 26 years of service as an Army wife beside her husband Col (Ret) Dennis “Denny” M. Boyle (deceased). Together, they served their country and saw the world. In the process they built many enduring friendships, enough to fill a lifetime.

Shirley was originally from Westminster, MD and she and Denny settled in San Diego after leaving the military. She enjoyed cooking for her friends, crafts, golf, and country line dancing. She was all about doing the right thing and making it as fun as possible.

As was their wish, Shirley’s remains will be interred together with her husband Denny at Arlington National Cemetery. Due to the high number of honored veterans awaiting their final resting place at Arlington National Cemetery, interment will take place early next spring.

Shirley is survived by her daughters and their husbands; Denise Boyle and Craig Church, Teri Boyle and Tom O’Brien; her sisters and their families, Doris and Jack Jones and Darleen and Wayne Weller.

  2. Wayne Fields says:

A wonderful woman with a great smile and light! It is easy to see how she passed along her tremendous gifts to her beautiful and loving daughters. Through them, she will forever be remembered.

  3. Shirley crocheted blankets for Amelia and Marissa when they were born. They love their “pink fuzzy blankets” and sleep with them every night. You are missed Aunt Shirl.

  4. Paula Young says:

Some of my fav memories are hanging out with “Mom” at the Padres’ baseball games, having a couple cocktails or just hanging out at her house in SD. I love you Shirley and you will be missed!

  5. When I had nothing in my life, except my son and I, Shirley donated her furniture, pictures and dishes to me. I still have them! I think of her and of Miss T, everyday I look at them. A loving and generous woman, whose daughters are extrodinary women as well. Ian and I are so blessed to have remembrances of her!
