Obituary

Shirley Mae Dunker Longfield, May 14, 1927 to July 24, 2015, passed away at the age of 88. She is survived by her three sons, John and wife Robin, Jim and wife Merrie, and Joe and wife Myra; her five grandchildren Dean, Michael, Sarah, Luke, and Jennie; and her sisters Geri Dunker and Judy Karlson.

Shirley was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt. She graduated from Muscatine High School in Muscatine, Iowa and went on to graduate from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Iowa City, Iowa.

Shirley served over 30 years with a career in nursing as a registered nurse. She enjoyed sewing, playing cards, traveling, and working outdoors. Shirley was an enthusiastic bowler and golfer. She enjoyed helping and giving to others. Her true passion was her family.

Shirley, along with her husband Robert, volunteered for many years at South County Outreach helping families at need in the community. At one point Shirley and Robert were named Orange County Volunteers of the Year.

A Memorial Visitation will be held Sunday August 2nd at O’Connor Mortuary 25301 Alicia Pkwy Laguna Hills from 1-3 pm.

She will be laid to rest alongside her husband Robert at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery at Point Loma in San Diego.

  1. Shirley will be missed by all of her friends and family. She lived next door to me for 35 years, a great friend to borrow something from or just visit. I MISS HER ALREADY. My love to Jim, John and Joe and their families. Love Shirley Velie
