Obituary

Shirley Kaiser-Hughes, age 87, passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at her home in San Juan Capistrano, California. She was born November 2, 1926 to Lawrence and Elizabeth Swain in Billings, Montana and was the fourth of 8 children.

Shirley married WWII veteran Walter Kaiser shortly after the war and raised five children; Linda Castle-Hill, Kathy Williams-Milligan, John Kaiser, Barbara Fouch and Teresa Conger.

They moved their young family to Southern California in 1955 where they both lived for the remainder of their lives. Walter died of cancer in 1994. Shirley met and married Jack Hughes, also a former WWII veteran, in January 1999 who lost his first wife to cancer.

Family was Shirley’s passion and delight. She always gave all of herself,working full time in the healthcare profession for over 30 years while providing for her family at home. Many hours of the night and weekends were spent doing what was necessary to satisfy the needs of her growing family. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, knitting and reading and volunteered her time at the Hemet Hospice facility. Shirley will be forever remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, as well as a loving, caring, resourceful and spiritual mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Shirley is survived by her husband, Jack; five children, Linda, Kathy, John, Barbara and Teresa; siblings, Kate, John, Rosalie and Eileen; thirteen grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at O’Connor Mortuary and Chapel in Laguna Hills, California at 1:00 pm with Deacon Pete Choquette officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest alongside her first husband Walter at Riverside National Cemetary.

    I am so sorry to hear about your mom. I did not know your mom personally , but I know she had to have been a great lady since she raised such a wonderful daughter. One is never prepared to lose a loved one and I know how sad and painful it is. Please know that you are being sent lots of love and hugs. Your family and friends will help you get through this.
