Obituary
With broken hearts we announce the unexpected death of Sheryl Anne Griffin (59 yr.) on November 19, 2023. Sheryl leaves behind her loving partner of 25+ years, Dennis (Denny) Shaughnessy; her parents, Patrick and Brenda Griffin; sisters Kimberly (Kim) Griffin (Mike Franck) and Kara Bjerke (William); nieces Ashleigh (Sean), Mariah (Cole), Katrina, Abbi, Lily; and her great nephews and niece, Oliver, Claira and Carter.
Sheryl was born August 21, 1964 in Richmond, VA. The oldest of three girls, Sheryl was independent and hardworking from an early age. Her family remained in Virginia through most of her grade school years. Her extended family lived in the area as well and Sheryl often spoke of the fond memories she had of spending summers with her relatives.
Her family relocated to Excelsior, MN in 1978. After high school, Sheryl and her father opened The Hats’ Meow, where they sold high fashion and novelty hats. Sheryl’s outgoing personality enabled her to make friends easily and her free time was usually spent engaged in social activities on Lake Minnetonka. Sheryl became an unwavering Minnesota Vikings fan and Prince enthusiast, declaring purple as her favorite color. Excelsior remained a special place to her throughout her life.
In 1998, Sheryl moved to Irvine, CA to live with her partner, Denny. Together, they built a life with their beloved cat, Pepe, lovingly referred to as Sheryl’s only child. She was dedicated to her job as Director of Patient Financial Services with Tenet Health; working with the company for 20+ years. She and Denny enjoyed traveling and Sheryl returned “home” yearly to visit family in Minnesota. As much as she looked forward to her next travel adventure, she relished a relaxing day in Laguna Beach. Sheryl thrived around people; she was at her happiest entertaining and hosting friends and family, particularly her nieces. Spending time with Sheryl meant having a good time.
Sheryl was one of a kind. She had a beautiful soul and brought joy and laughter to everyone around her. Her friends and family will forever cherish memories of the good times they shared with her.
A private memorial service will be held Summer of 2024.
