Obituary

Sherry Ann Bendall

Sherry Ann Bendall was pioneering in being the first of her family to obtain a university degree, going on to become a doctor at a time when just 15% of practicing physicians in the US were women. The odds against her were formidable, but more formidable still were her courage and strength of character. She was a fighter, with a deep sense of compassion, kindness, and social justice. She always tried to help others, and was especially caring for the young and for those in trouble or need. She loved her family deeply and was protective especially of her two children. She enjoyed crafts and hobbies and made many beautiful artworks, ranging over media from crochet to knitting, quilting, painting and lapidary work. She was loved and respected by all who knew her, family, friends, and neighbours, and her loss is keenly felt.

  1. I was so sad and shocked to hear of Sherry’s passing — mostly because my knowledge of her is as a happy, resourceful person who could figure out so many things; I was just sure she would work her way out of COVID. Sherry was my virtual classmate in our shared lapidary classes and she always brought a new approach, a new project or a helpful insight with her to class in addition to her joy for creating beautiful objects. I feel for her family and friends at this time of sudden loss and will keep her bright spirit in my thoughts.

  2. Sherry always brought a bit of sunshine with her smile in our lapidary class.
I am thankful to met her.

My deepest sympathies for your loss.

I remember her stories about serving as a doctor on an indian reservation. Sherry was one tough cookie and I always admired her. Sorry that we never took the time to reconnect…

I met Sherry in the Lapidary class at Laguna Woods. She was so easy to talk to and showed me what she was working on. We joked about my haircut and she asked me if she should get a short cut too. I told her to go for it.
I’m sending condolences to her family who must truly miss her. I was fortunate to know her. We will meet again Sherry. xoxo
