Obituary

Sherri Lynn Matlock, 65, passed peacefully in her sleep on May 7, 2020. She was born May 5, 1955 in Maywood, CA to Walt and Dixie Hudson and raised in California and Oregon. On June 25, 1977, she married George Lee Matlock in Alameda, CA, settling in Pomona. Prior to moving to Laguna Hills five years ago, they lived in Northern California and raised four sons.

Sherri was a loving wife, dedicated mother, wonderful grandmother, and loyal friend to all. She devoted her time to serving the Lord and caring for her family. She was an active member of the church families in Saddleback Valley church of Christ in Irvine, Alameda church of Christ, and Dublin church of Christ. Sherri’s favorite activity was spending quality time with her children and grandchildren and going on outdoor adventures with her husband. Her other interests included visiting Disneyland, antiquing, collecting Victorian-era figurines and paintings, and being in service to others (whom she always put before herself).

She is survived by her husband George of 43 years; sons Jacob, Joshua, Daniel, and David; daughters-in-law Anai, Kimberly, and Laura; grandchildren Jacob Jr., Robert, Alayna, Samuel, Walter, Julia, Cole, Juliette, and Caitlyn; sister Lori and her family; sister Cindy and her family; sister-in-law Bev and family; mother-in-law Masayo; sister-in-law Mary and her family; and sister-in-law Belinda and her family.

Sherri spent her last few days smiling, enjoying time with her family, and helping others. Her family is comforted knowing Sherri is with God and we can see her again one day.

  1. Sherri, I miss you so much.

  2. Mom, we miss you so, so much. Thank you for everything you have taught us, all the love you have shown us, and all the laughs you have given us. You’re the best – a better mom than we could have asked for. We love you so much.

I have such happy, happy memories of getting to have sleepovers with Aunt Sherri, Uncle George, and the boys. I remember getting to go to Aunt Sherri’s for taco night and movie nights. Aunt Sherri would let me help her in the kitchen- she was the best cook in the family! I remember Aunt Sherri teaching me how to make THE BEST hot chocolate in the world! I remember Aunt Sherri introducing me to Nation’s Giant Hamburger- SO delicious! I remember Aunt Sherri letting me make mud pies in her yard with Jake! NOT so delicious!‰‚ However, what I mostly remember is the feeling of absolute safety and comfort I felt every time I was in her home- Aunt Sherri never made me feel ashamed or afraid or unwanted! I was never, ever sad when I was around Aunt Sherri! She was hilarious, she was warm, she was always late(!!), and she was always willing to answer any and every question I ever asked her! What an incredible aunt God gave me! Thank you Aunt Sherri for loving me. Thank you for teaching me what it looks like to love your husband and to love your children. Thank you for teaching me how to love God’s people, how to love the lost, and how to forgive, always! Thank you for helping to shape me into the woman I am today. You are my hero! I miss you terribly. See you in heaven!
    Lovingly and gratefully yours,
    Kati

  5. I remember going to the hospital to visit Walt Halagarda. As I entered the room, there was Walt’s wife, Bev, and Sherri attending to him. Linda & I both remember how hospitable the Matlocks were. They had several large gatherings in their home. George & Sherri also kept a young college girl from Tennessee who needed a place to stay while in an internship. Sheri was that ki d of person who did many things behind the scenes. She will be missed by many.
