Shelem,
When I heard the news of you passing away it was difficult to fathom that someone I was once pretty close with was really gone so young. I remember when we first became friends back in high school. Me and the guys (Carlos, Angello, Juan and the rest) were Juniors and you, Denise, and the rest of your crew were freshman. We used to go cruise around in Juan’s toaster car and hang out all day. We did a ton of laughing and teasing and even had an inappropriate nickname for your name that people now recognize as an eggplant emoji. We had many heart to hearts about friends, family, dating, chismes, whatever was on our minds at the time. Anything the guys had planned to do, we always included you because you had the personality that was down to have fun and always had a good time. You gave me the honor of being your chambelan for your quince and that is something I will never forget. We used to have such a blast messing around and not listening to George, the instructor. I remember once during practice, some random park kid got busted and you said, “The Hoodah” and we all cracked up and teased you about it for several days. One of my favorite qualities you had was your ability to laugh and not take things too seriously. On the day of your quince I remember you were stressed out and turning into a QuincZilla because you thought we didn’t actually know the steps to the Balse and all we wanted to do was mess around. Of course, we were just messing and we surprised you and Denise by actually nailing the balse. I will always remember your laugh and your smile and just the good times we had. After I graduated high school, we didn’t communicate much but I did keep up with you from afar via social media. (Btw, you spent quite a few hours at Dukes lol) I congratulated you when you had your little girl and I even had the chance to see her grow from a baby to where she is now in elementary school. I never said it to you, but I was happy to see you were such a devoted, loving mother. I could also tell that you were dedicated to your parents and siblings. Thank you again for choosing me as a friend so many years ago and I will cherish every single moment we spent together. I offer much love to you and your family.
Until we see each other again,
– Misael Galvan
