Obituary

SCOTT MICHAEL HAGERTY
August 20, 1951 – November 29, 2024

Scott was born in Visalia, California, but grew up predominantly in northwest Indiana. His father worked as a civil engineer for Amoco Oil, and the family moved around quite a bit while Scott was going up, living in Casper, Wyoming and twice in Texas City, Texas.

Scott matriculated at Indiana University, in Bloomington, Indiana, where rumor has it he spent more time in intramural sports than hitting the books. Yet he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from the School of Business and went straight to work, getting his first job in sales in California. Though he changed companies over the years (usually after having been recruited by the new company), he was always in sales, eventually becoming the sales manager for the entire western United States with Allegro Industries, before he retired.

Working at companies that dealt in safety equipment, Scott also served many years as an instructor at the Annual Industrial Fire Training School held during summers at Texas A&M University.

In middle age, Scott took to learning how to sail, earning several certificates from the American Sailing Association on keelboat, catamaran, and basic coastal cruising, among others.

Known for his quick wit and affable nature, Scott is survived by his brother, Terry Hagerty, sister, Kim Hagerty, and step-daughter, Christine McCanna.

A reception, a Remembrance of Scott’s Life, will be held after the holidays on January 11, 2025, from 5:00 pm until 9:00 pm, at the Lago Santa Margarita Beach Club at 21472 Avenida de Fundadores in Rancho Santa Margarita, 92688.

In lieu of flowers, if you’d like, you can make a contribution to one of Scott’s favorite charities, either St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the Santiago Canyon College Basketball Team.
