Obituary

Samuel Elijah Chan was born without a heartbeat and passed away peacefully into the loving arms of our Lord Jesus on Tuesday, April 9, 2019 at Mission Hospital, Mission Viejo.  At 38 weeks, Samuel was a beautiful baby boy, weighing 6 lb. 10 oz. and measuring 19.5 in. long.

Samuel is the cherished and beloved son of Edwin and Marie Chan, and was conceived miraculously as an answer to his sister’s prayers. His big brother looked forward to teaching him to kick soccer balls and carrying him. The family enjoyed watching Samuel grow at every ultrasound appointment. Samuel’s life connected with and touched many lives.

We prayed for Samuel to be happy, healthy, and holy, and during his brief time with us, he was.  He loved it when his sister read stories to him, and made sure that Marie ate a lot of healthy fruits and vegetables, especially organic Fuji apples.  He was always excited to hear Pastor Rick’s sermons at church and responded with much kicking.

His big brother and sister showered him with hugs, loving words, and special baby clothes and toys that they had chosen for him. Samuel was loved by his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many dear friends.

We would like to thank Dr. Pan, the labor and delivery nurses at Mission Hospital, Chaplain Mary Noonan, Pastor Brandon Reed, Pastor and Mrs. Max McGhee, and their Saddleback Church small group for their compassion and support.

Samuel will be greatly missed and always remembered, but we look forward to the hope of seeing him in heaven one day. He is greeted in heaven by Jesus, his great-grandparents, and many family friends.

Jesus said, “I am the resurrection and the life.  He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die”  (John 11:25-26).

Please join us for Samuel’s memorial service on Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Saddleback Church on Camino Capistrano at 10 am, followed by a graveside service at El Toro Memorial Park at 1 pm.

Samuel Elijah Chan, you are such a handsome boy, perfectly formed in His image, ready to enter the world of your loving family. Instead, you are wrapped up in the arms of Jesus and held in the heart of your mom, dad, sister, brother, and extended family who already miss you. You are in heaven, Little One, with the I AM who made you, secure forever in His holy presence. The reunion one day will be so sweet. You are deeply loved Samuel.

Samuel could not have been born to a more loving family. We are sorry that we did not get to meet him here on earth but we rejoice that he is being lavished with overwhelming love in the presence of our Lord and Savior. Sending much love and prayers,
