Obituary

Sallie “Deane” (Morgan) Almand

Mission Viejo, CA, Saturday, June 1, 2024.  It is with great sadness that we share the news of Deane Almand’s (93) passing.  She died peacefully at her home after a series of unrelated heath challenges over the past year.  She is survived by her only son, Chuck Almand, and his life partner, Kent Taylor.  She is also survived by her sister-in-law Carolyn Morgan, who resides in Georgia, her son, Clifford and daughter, Laura and their children.

Deane was born in Atlanta, Georgia, February 19, 1931, and was the oldest child of Elsie and Orie Morgan.  Deane attended Brown & Russell High Schools and graduated as a member of the 1948 class.  Until her death, she maintained lasting lifelong friendship with a number of her junior and high school friends.

After high school Deane met and married Charlie Almand also from Atlanta, Georgia, they later married and had one son, Chuck Almand in 1959. They divorced many years later.   Deane spent most of her career in senior living health care in Rockville, Maryland.  She retired in 2001 and moved to Clermont, Florida to be near her son.  She lived in the Summit Greens community and was a member of the Clermont Methodist Church and was active in food service outreach to those in need in the community.  She enjoyed her friendships with many neighbors in Summit Greens and in the church.

Most recently, Deane moved in December 2022 to Mission Viejo, California, to be close to her son.  She was a resident at Ivy Park, a beautiful senior living facility.  Deane found many new friends at Ivy Park and participated in all the arts and crafts classes they had to offer.  She enjoyed making jewelry, holiday and special occasion cards and watercolor paintings, all of which she was incredibly good at.  She kept a wonderful treasure of scrapbooks spanning a lifetime of mementos and photographs of family and friends.

Deane was a wonderful, loving, kind and caring mother and the best friend anyone could ask for.  She loved to laugh, was a good listener, loved music, traveling, and she had a strong faith.  She will be missed terribly by her family and all of those who knew and loved her.

We invite you to visit a special memorial site that honors her life and write a few words to share with the family and other friends and visitors.  The site also has information about plans for a Celebration of Life to be held in her honor.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested a donation be made in her name at the National Breast Cancer Research Foundation at:  https://give.bcrf.org/.

My husband Scott and I are so sorry to hear of Deane’s passing. I have thought of her often over the years. We met her at a wine tasting in Dundee Florida years ago, and saw her several times after. We exchanged Christmas cards for several years and I’ve wondered of her whereabouts when I never heard from her again. Her name is the first in my address book so I decided to look for her on-line. My heart hurts that she is gone. She was a wonderful and loving woman! Somewhere I have pictures of her. I’ll have to try and find them now, for sure. We were so blessed to have known her.
Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

Mrs. Almand was a very sweet customer of mine in Clermont, she came to say goodbye when she was moving to CA and left me her new address so we could keep in touch! I loved her sweet southern ways and accent, and she was always very gracious to thank me for assisting her whenever she came to the bank! I was very sad to hear of her passing, especially since losing my mom this past Nov! May her soul rest in eternal Peace
