Obituary
Roger H. Van Scotter
August 20th, 1940 ~ January 8th, 2024
Born to Helen & Henry Van Scotter in Elkhorn, Wisconsin he was 1 of 5 brothers. Roger started out his life as a bright child full of mischief and athleticism. Once Roger got to high school his athletic prowess opened up the world. He graduated with 16 Varsity letters and set high school records in track and football. He went on to win a high school state championship and set records for his speed. His sprinting earned him a scholarship to Marquette University where he studied dentistry and set collegiate records there too. To this day, his track times are still in the top ten at Marquette. After dental school Roger became a Captain in the USAF (as a dentist) and then attended UCSF to specialize as a periodontist. He married Jean Zost and had two children Tiffany and Ryan. He lived in Laguna Beach for the past 48 years. He practiced periodontistry for 40+ years and was often called the “humming dentist” by his patients. His love of flying airplanes, Dixieland jazz, skiing, drumming and traveling packed more adventures into his 83 years than most people, as he was known for never sitting still. He loved people and people loved him. He had a quirky sense of humor and was genuine.
He is survived by his daughter Tiffany (& Jason) Glime, his son Ryan Van Scotter, his 3 grandchildren: Nathan 21, Ryan 16 & Mila 9 and his companion Shirley Nagel.
He was one of a kind, with a generous heart and a helping hand. His grandkids adored him and thoroughly enjoyed his sense of humor. His legacy will live on in all the lives he touched and the love he shared. He will be missed by all…
There will be a memorial & celebration of his life planned for March 9th, 2024.
