Obituary

Robert ?Bob? Zaragoza Fernandez, 49, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 1, 2004 in Laguna Hills, California. Bob was born in Manila, Philippines and moved to the United States with his family in 1969. He was a 1973 graduate of Dover High School in Dover, Delaware and earned his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton in Ohio in 1980. Most recently, he was a Senior Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace Electronic System Division.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred de Guzman, daughter Merissa, 10 years old, and his sons Ryan, 9 and Jourden, 18. He is also survived by his parents, Pete and Nelly Fernandez, of Dover, Delaware, brothers, Edgar of Salisbury, Maryland and Rick of Nice, France and sister Vicky Yaholkovsky of Rocklin, California.

Bob was an avid music fan – in particular jazz – and most specially enjoyed playing the piano. He loved everything about food: from cooking, to indulging in the pleasures of the table, and, to rhapsodizing about it. A travel enthusiast, Bob collected arts and crafts from around the globe, and had just recently returned from a 3-week holiday with his family in France and Italy.

Bob was a loving father, a devoted husband, a loyal, committed and caring brother and uncle, and a wonderful son. He will be missed greatly by those whom he has touched.

  4. Both Bob and I represented our respective companies at Gulfstream Long Beach, and our paths crossed often. While we worked for companies that were competitors, I always felt that he was a great guy, and that personal relationships were more important. We talked quite a bit about family and other important things while waiting for aircraft to be ready. You will be missed Bob. My deepest condolences to Mrs. Fernandez and the kids.

  5. Dear Fernandez Family,
We met in Dover back in the late 1960’s and I immediately became very close friends with the entire Fernandez family. To say we are “Family” does not describe well enough the intense feelings I have for everyone, including you, Mildred. I spent 13+ Christmas’s with everyone including the cousinsin our youth, and we all later toured northern California together when Vicky got married. The memories I keep of knowing Bob, and the entire family, are ones I cherish and keep close to my heart. But, for Vicky to call me in Dover, the day after I had to bury my own father, and tell me that Bob too had died, on the very day of my father’s funeral, was very hard for her to tell me about, but not as difficult as it was for me to hear. I am just thankful that I was able to visit with Bob, who took my daughter Stephanie and me out to dinner after we moved to California, while my husband was deployed, and gave me some added new memories while remembering old ones together. He introduced me to Vodka Penne, a pasta dish, which I will order on a regular basis now, in his memory. Thanks, Bob, it was delish!
I am saddened by your loss as Bob was a wonderful husband, cousin, nephew, father, brother, son, musician, and friend to all. I share in your grief and will mourn his passing forever. But, because I have so many wonderful memories, Bob will live on forever in my mind and my heart. May God give you the strength to carry on through his wonderful memories.
Mildred, and children, you are what he lived for. He was proud of you all and you made life wonderful for him. He loved you all dearly and it showed on his face and in his voice every time he spoke of you. He will truly be missed, and forever loved by all who were fortunate enough to have known him. I thank God that I was one of the fortunate people who called him friend/family.
May God be with you, and you will all be in our prayers. Anything you need that I am able to do, just ask.
    Love,
    Mikki, Clell & Stephanie Breining
and my extended Hirschbein family back in Dover.
