Obituary

Robert ?Bob? Zaragoza Fernandez, 49, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 1, 2004 in Laguna Hills, California. Bob was born in Manila, Philippines and moved to the United States with his family in 1969. He was a 1973 graduate of Dover High School in Dover, Delaware and earned his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton in Ohio in 1980. Most recently, he was a Senior Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace Electronic System Division.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred de Guzman, daughter Merissa, 10 years old, and his sons Ryan, 9 and Jourden, 18. He is also survived by his parents, Pete and Nelly Fernandez, of Dover, Delaware, brothers, Edgar of Salisbury, Maryland and Rick of Nice, France and sister Vicky Yaholkovsky of Rocklin, California.

Bob was an avid music fan – in particular jazz – and most specially enjoyed playing the piano. He loved everything about food: from cooking, to indulging in the pleasures of the table, and, to rhapsodizing about it. A travel enthusiast, Bob collected arts and crafts from around the globe, and had just recently returned from a 3-week holiday with his family in France and Italy.

Bob was a loving father, a devoted husband, a loyal, committed and caring brother and uncle, and a wonderful son. He will be missed greatly by those whom he has touched.

    Dear Mildred,
I am deeply saddened by the news about your husband passing. It’s so shocking to us. We all feel your pain and loss. Please take care of yourself and the children at this most difficult time.

  2. Dear Mildred & Family,
That was such a sad, terrible news. You know how I feel about Bob’s passing, Mil. I’m glad I had the chance to speak with you in recent days.
Everyone Bob touched in his lifetime, I’m sure, have such good memories of him.
Bob was a wonderful person and we will miss him. When we last stayed at your house for a brief vacation in California, that was perhaps one of the few times I got to know Bob up close. Such a nice man, caring and devoted to his family, smart and charming, and a good cook, no less. And when Bob, you and the kids joined us here for Nanay’s 80th, Bob easily fit in. He seemed to have a ready smile for everyone.
Mil, please know that you and the kids are always in our thoughts and prayers. Be strong, and keep your faith!
    God bless!

  3. I used to work with Bob at McDonnell Douglas, Long Beach and I will never forget the jokes he used to say during lunch. Perhaps the most famous or notorious joke was the Chicken joke that caused momentary silence in the McDonnell Douglas Cafeteria.

So Bob– DO YOU WANT TO BUY A CHICKEN?!!!!!!!!!

  4. Dear Mildred,

I was shocked to hear about Bob’s death. I wish I can be there for you, Merissa, Ryan and Jourden. I still remember our trip to Tijuana. That was a great trip! I will never forget the times I spent with Bob and you. Everytime, we went out together, I had the best time. Please let me know in anyway if I can help. Please send our condolences to all of your family. You and your family will be in our prayers and thoughts. I will miss his laughter and his generosity. Please take care of yourself. Bob is in a better place now and will be with you always and with his children.

    Love you,
