Obituary

Robert ?Bob? Zaragoza Fernandez, 49, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 1, 2004 in Laguna Hills, California. Bob was born in Manila, Philippines and moved to the United States with his family in 1969. He was a 1973 graduate of Dover High School in Dover, Delaware and earned his BS degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Dayton in Ohio in 1980. Most recently, he was a Senior Engineer at Honeywell Aerospace Electronic System Division.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred de Guzman, daughter Merissa, 10 years old, and his sons Ryan, 9 and Jourden, 18. He is also survived by his parents, Pete and Nelly Fernandez, of Dover, Delaware, brothers, Edgar of Salisbury, Maryland and Rick of Nice, France and sister Vicky Yaholkovsky of Rocklin, California.

Bob was an avid music fan – in particular jazz – and most specially enjoyed playing the piano. He loved everything about food: from cooking, to indulging in the pleasures of the table, and, to rhapsodizing about it. A travel enthusiast, Bob collected arts and crafts from around the globe, and had just recently returned from a 3-week holiday with his family in France and Italy.

Bob was a loving father, a devoted husband, a loyal, committed and caring brother and uncle, and a wonderful son. He will be missed greatly by those whom he has touched.

  1. Although nothing can take away your sorrow right now, hoping you’ll know that family and friends love you and are praying for you.

“I make mention of you always in my prayers.”
    Romans 1:9

“To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven;..a time to be born, and a time to die; a time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;…He hath made everything beautiful in his time…”

    Ecclesiastes3: 1,2, & 11

  2. To Mildred,

Our prayers are with you and your family at this most difficult and trying time. Hope you find the strength to carry on. We will miss cousin Bobby terribly.

  3. Dear Mildred,
When my Mum phoned me up about what happened, I just did not get it. I kept saying to Jocelyn, Bob was just sitting next to me in the car on the way to Heathrow airport. I wished I came to see you a little early and perhaps we would have had that Fish and Chips.

This must be very difficult for you and the kids.

Our prayers are with all of your family.

Dear Mildred, Merissa, and Ryan –
It was satisfying to be with you at the funeral for Bob, although very sad. I apologize for having to leave before I could greet you, although I was pleased to be able to speak with Merissa briefly before the service. It was very heart warming to see so many friends and relatives there for you.
~ I have not been back to SGA since leaving in December, 2002. I wanted to give the new administration full reign. It was delightful to see the growth and maturity of the children and to see old friends yesterday. I miss all of you and hold my great memories dearly.
~ I remember Bob fondly – his loving attention to the children at school. We shared many conversations before school when we were on the play yard. I knew him to be a terrific dad and a positively good person.
~ Love and blessings for each of you, Joyce

  5. Dear Mildred and Family,
My thoughts and prayers are with you all in this time of difficulty. May Robert have peace in God’s hands.
