Obituary
Robert Boulding was born June 15, 1927 in Gettysburg, SD and passed away April 28, 2009 in Lake Forest, CA. He was 81 years old. Robert is survived by his wife, Betty; daughters, Rebecca Terry Shepherd and Barbara Richard Hernandez; sons, Robert and Ronald Cheree Boulding; 7 grandchildren, Elisha Stewart, Julia Hernandez, Angela Rensman, Scott Dixon, Brittany Lyster, Skyler Boulding, Eden Frazee, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Robert grew up in Gettysburg, SD and Long Beach, CA. He attended Long Beach Wilson and Gettysburg High Schools, where he met Betty, his wife of 61 years. He was very active in sports, playing on his championship high school softball and basketball teams. He became an avid golfer and could be found at Long Beach Recreation Golf Course and many others. He won several tournaments and finally achieved his ‘hole in one’ in 2004. Bob also loved music and was a talented jazz violinist, playing with many notable performers. He belonged to the St. Luke’s Choristers of St. Luke’s Church in Long Beach as a young teen, and performed in several Hollywood movies including Mrs. Miniver, starring Walter Pigeon and Greer Garson, and Men of Boys Town, with Spencer Tracy. After moving back to Long Beach in 1952, he worked at Douglas Aircraft and then learned the art of barbering and was the owner of Belmont Shore Barber Shop for 30 years. He was appointed to the State Barber Board by Governor George Deukmejan, and served for 8 years. During his retirement, he continued to work at the barber shop part time, play golf with his best friends and enjoy his grandchildren and their many activities. His family and friends will miss his many good jokes and stories. He will be missed dearly.
Funeral Services will be Monday, May 4, 2009 at O’Connor Mortuary, 25301 Alicia Pkwy, Laguna Hills, CA. Burial will be at Gettysburg Cemetery, Gettysburg, SD.
