Obituary

Robert M. Herrell ‘Bob’, 76, of Dana Point, California died on Friday, September 4, 2015 after a brief battle with cancer.

Born to the late Merle and Lydia Herrell on August 7, 1939 in Bell, California, Bob married his wife Mary on July 27, 1963 and they recently celebrated fifty-two years of marriage. He also had a younger brother Donald, who passed away in January, 2001.

Bob graduated from California High School in Whittier, CA in 1957 and was a celebrated multi-sport athlete for the Condors. Upon high school graduation, he entered the United States Army serving overseas for several years in the 24th Infantry Division, Airborne unit. Bob was also a member of their Military Police in Augsburg, Germany. After proudly serving his country, Bob graduated with honors from California State University Polytechnic, Pomona with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He later earned his MBA from California State University at Fullerton.

Bob went on to a distinguished thirty-three year career with PPG Industries in various executive management positions in Southern California, New York City, Pittsburgh and St. Louis, Missouri. Bob was a member of the PPG Chemicals Division Hall of Fame. Bob was the President of ADACIOM for many years, which is a Chemical Industry Leadership Organization.

Throughout his life, he was very active in community service with organizations such as Junior Achievement and the Chesterfield Athletic Association. Bob loved to teach and coached numerous kids participating in youth sports in the St. Louis area.

He will be remembered as a friend and mentor to many. Bob was passionate about sharing life’s lessons with those he cared for and was never shy to tell you how he really felt. His personality filled a room.

Bob is survived by his wife Mary and his sons Jeffrey of Tustin, California and David of Ponte Vedra, Florida, along with daughters-in-law Cindy and Connie and his loving grandchildren Connor, Jordan, Carson and Lucas.

A Memorial service and celebration will be held on Saturday, October 3 at 1pm at O’Connor Mortuary, Laguna Hills Chapel 25302 Alicia Parkway Laguna Hills, California 92653.

    Ah, there is a great family reunion in heaven. How we will miss this larger than life man. We are thinking of all of you and are hoping that so many wonderful memories of Bob will ease the sadness of this present time. Love to all-Dennis and Karen Caruana
