Obituary

Bob was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Helen and Howard Minier. He was the oldest brother to Richard, Patricia, and Susan. Sports and reading occupied much of his time as a young boy. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951.

Then it was on to the College of the Sequoias to play basketball and win the state junior college title. He then received a scholarship to UCSB where he received his undergraduate degree and graduated with honors. By this time he knew he wanted to be a teacher of literature, philosophy and history. He received his Masters from UCLA and began his career of 44 years teaching high school students in Fresno, Whittier and the last 34 years at Mission Viejo High School in Mission Viejo. He truly loved teaching and continued his love of sports, reading and writing his entire life.

While in Fresno he met Carole and they were married in 1960 and shared 50 wonderful years together. They have been best friends and created many memories. They were blessed with one daughter and two sons and have been very involved with their 7 grandchildren. Family gatherings were wonderful!

On behalf of the Minier Family we appreciate your thoughts and support throughout this difficult time. Thank you for attending Bob’s celebration of life.

  1. Today I learned that the world had lost Bob Minier. I will always remember his enthusiasm for us students and his passion for life coming through in his teachings. I played golf for Coach Minier from 1995-1999 and was fortunate enough to be a part of his final Humanities year. Those years brought so much joy and laughter between him and me, and I will never forget how much we mutually respected and cared for one another. Thank you so much for the words of wisdom and fabulous memories, Mr. M. I can only hope as an educator nowadays myself to pass on the torch as you so proudly and gloriously did for us. You will be missed, Coach. I love ya.

  2. It is with sadness that I have learned of the death of Mr. Minier. He was an inspiring, patient, and challenging teacher. He was one of the teachers from my days at MVHS who challenged me to think and who set me on an intellectual journey that continues to this day I am a philosophy professor in Boston. He made a difference in my life and in the lives of so many students. He lived and good and full life. The world is a better place because he was here.

  3. Gordon Smead says:

I had Mr. Minier for tenth grade English at Mission Viejo High in 1967-68.. He was a great teacher. One of my proudest high school moments was when he gave me an A+ for a poem I wrote on Julius Caesar.
Loved Mr. Minier. Much love to his family.
