Obituary

Bob was born in Fort Wayne, Indiana to Helen and Howard Minier. He was the oldest brother to Richard, Patricia, and Susan. Sports and reading occupied much of his time as a young boy. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1951.

Then it was on to the College of the Sequoias to play basketball and win the state junior college title. He then received a scholarship to UCSB where he received his undergraduate degree and graduated with honors. By this time he knew he wanted to be a teacher of literature, philosophy and history. He received his Masters from UCLA and began his career of 44 years teaching high school students in Fresno, Whittier and the last 34 years at Mission Viejo High School in Mission Viejo. He truly loved teaching and continued his love of sports, reading and writing his entire life.

While in Fresno he met Carole and they were married in 1960 and shared 50 wonderful years together. They have been best friends and created many memories. They were blessed with one daughter and two sons and have been very involved with their 7 grandchildren. Family gatherings were wonderful!

On behalf of the Minier Family we appreciate your thoughts and support throughout this difficult time. Thank you for attending Bob’s celebration of life.

I heard of Coach Miniers passing today. My condolences to his family. He played a formative roll in my young life, having played for him for a couple of years.

    Thanks Coach Minier.

  2. John White says:

Bob was a great basketball coach! We will always remember his passion for the game. Many great laughs on the court.

  3. An animated and demanding coach, as well as teacher. Bob gave 100% and expected the same from his students and players.

    My best to family friends.

I played golf for Coach Minier from 1996-1999. He was an extremely intelligent person and really did love golf and basketball. He got involved with his students as much as possible and really cared about each and every one of them. He was a class act.
    You will be missed Coach!

  5. I remember Bob as a guy who loved kids and always wanted them to succeed in life. He coached my son “JR” @ MVHS the game of golf. From time to time we would drive the student-athletes to their matches. We also talked a lot about sports and of course his kids – he was very proud of his family – and it showed. He will be missed!
