Obituary

Robert E. Koedel went home to the Lord: April 4, 2013.

Robert E. Koedel, 61, of Trabuco Canyon passed away on Thursday, April 4th, 2013 surrounded by his family. Bob fought a strong, courageous, and brief battle with pancreatic cancer.

He was born April 22, 1951, the beloved son of Frederick H. and Ethel G (Berrie) Koedel in Natrona Heights, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Pittsburgh.

Bob graduated in 1969 from Leechburg Area High School where he was active in the marching band playing the trumpet. He graduated from Robert Morris University in 1973 with a Bachelors degree in Business Administration. Bob worked during high school and college at a local car dealership. His passion for cars led to a life long career in the automotive industry working first for Ford Motor Company and then with Nissan North America until his retirement in 2012. His career took him and his family on a journey across much of the United States living in 14 different locations, but Bob considered the Orange County area “home”.

Bob married Linda Dorsey, the love of his life and everlasting sweetheart, on November 2, 1974. They had two wonderful sons, Douglas and Michael, who also live nearby.

Outside of work, Bob enjoyed golfing, spending time with his family and many Nissan friends, as well as delighting in the antics of his young grandchildren. All of Bob’s family and friends were very important to him, especially his devoted wife Linda, his sons, their wives, and his grandchildren to whom he was “Grandpa” or “Pop-Pop.” No matter where Bob lived, he was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler fan proudly wearing black and gold and glued to the television on game days.

Bob was a man dedicated to his family and passionate about his career. He touched the lives of many people and was loved and respected by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Bob is survived by his wife, Linda; children Douglas (Monica) and Michael (Christine), with 8 grandchildren, Mya, Tyson, Grady, Brooklyn, Dylan Koedel and Steven, Melanie, Sara Hauver, all of Orange County, CA. Bob’s sister Judi (Robert) Stevens of Crystal Lake, IL with their 3 children, Tyler, Kirsten & Brett; sister-in-law Debbie Johnson with her 2 children, Nelson & Anne; and brother-in-law Daniel (Linda) Dorsey III with their 2 children, Daniel & Craig. Bob is also survived by his Aunt Elizabeth Blom of Leechburg, PA and cousins Rebecca (Randy) Ferrar, Carol Simcox and James (Geri) Grine. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Frederick and Ethel Koedel.

Visitation will be Tuesday, April 9th from 7:00 – 9:00pm and Funeral will be Wednesday, April 10th at 4:00pm, both at O’Connor Mortuary in Laguna Hills, CA.

  1. Linda –

Cindy and I were so very sorry to hear of Bob’s passing. I always counted Bob among those of my work associates whom I considered as having the highest integrity and honest work ethic. More importantly, he was the kind of guy that, when anyone is asked if they knew him or ever worked with him, the first response is always “What a great guy”. I’ve heard that so many times over the years, and many times over the past week. You and your family are in our prayers, and Bob will always be in our memories.

I had the distinct pleasure of working for Bob at Nissan for a couple of years. I can honestly say he was in a class of his own. A true leader – a true motivator – a true professional – a truly great guy. My heart hurts at hearing of our loss but knowing that he had a ticket straight up to the Lord eases my pain. May God bless the family. Thanks for allowing me to know your husband, father, brother and granddad 🙂

  3. Forever in our hearts Bob! We promise to help keep Linda and your family on their feet as you would!

  4. My deepest sympathy to all of Bob’s family. He was definitely one of the good guys in Jr and Sr high school. I think we even went to elementary together. All of you are in my thoughts and prayers.

  5. Bob was my boss in Parts & Service at the Nissan Region some years ago. It was a new part of the business for me. Bob taught me a great deal. He was always supportive of his team. While Bob was always focused on doing a great job, he understood the importance of family first and foremost. A good man. He will be missed.

My thoughts and prayers to Bob’s family.
