Aston, Robert Douglas

Robert Douglas Aston, 87, of Laguna Niguel, CA passed away June 23, 2014. “Bob” Aston, son of Richard and Ruth Aston, loving husband of Patricia Ann Aston, was born in Pasadena, CA on June 3, 1927 and passed away peacefully at his home in Laguna Niguel after a year-long battle with esophageal cancer.

He is survived by his wife Patricia, daughter Julie Kasper and son-in-law Roc Kasper; two sons, Steven Aston and David Aston; step-daughters Kathy Condell and Debra Spriggs, along with thirteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Preceded in death by daughter Elizabeth “Lisa” Roderick, who passed away in July 2003 of a heart condition. Bob grew up in the Pasadena area along with his sister Judith, who died in their parents’ home fire in January 1956.

In early 1945, Bob went on active duty for the U.S. Navy serving on an aircraft carrier, and eventually received an honorable discharge from the Battleship Massachusetts. Bob completed college and earned an Associates Arts Degree in Engineering from Pasadena City College and then a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics from Pomona College. He also obtained Graduate Certificates in Savings & Loans and Banking. His career began as a Bank Teller and spanned 42 years holding a variety of positions. Bob retired in 1992 at the age of 65 as President and Director of Mutual Savings and Loan Association.

Bob was active in the communities he lived in holding position as President of the Corona Del Mar Chamber of Commerce, a member of Kiwanis Club and the Pasadena Rotary Club.

Of recent years, Bob had been active with the Rotary Club of Laguna Niguel and had served as Treasurer and President. He also held positions with homeowners community groups. Bob acquired a sport fishing boat to keep him busy locally when he wasn’t actively traveling throughout the world with his wife. He loved cruising, entertaining and social events with his family and friends. He loved telling jokes and always had such a wonderful and optimistic outlook on life. Bob was an inspiration to all who knew him and will be greatly missed.

A “Celebration of Life” will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2014 at El Niguel Country Club in Laguna Niguel at 3:00 pm.
