Obituary

Robert Calhoun Morcey, “Bob, Bobby” a beloved businessman, husband, uncle, and cat enthusiast, passed away peacefully at the age of 81 on June 14, 2024. Born in Connecticut on November 9, 1942 to Sidney and Ruth Morcey, Bob relocated to California, where he resided for over 50 years, building a successful career in business.

Bob’s commitment to his work and dedication to his employees were hallmarks of his professional life. He was the owner of two successful restaurants called Sundowners Family Restaurants for over 40 years. He was known for his kindness and generosity towards those who worked with him. His leadership and compassionate nature left a lasting impact on everyone he worked with.

In addition to his professional achievements, Bob was a devoted husband to his beloved wife, Christine Moseley, with whom he shared 47 beautiful years of companionship. His love and devotion to his family were evident in the strong bonds he maintained with his nieces and nephews, whom he adored as if they were his own children.

Bob’s passion extended beyond his family and work; he was an avid cat lover. His home was always filled with the warmth and joy of feline companionship. Bob was known for his light-hearted humor by all who knew him. As a young man, he was a talented comic strip creator, and had his work in the Waterbury Republican newspaper. Photography and film were two of his greatest passions. He also served as a National Guard in his youth.

Bob’s legacy of love, kindness, and dedication will continue to inspire all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Christine, his sister Frances Morcey, his nieces Tricia Gentil, Kimberly Stein, Deb London, Tonja Gadsden, Clarice Moseley, and Doris Moseley and his nephews Mark Stein, James Moseley, Michael Moseley, and David Moseley Jr. and his cherished 23 year old cat Mia. He is pre-deceased by his beloved sister Katherine Lovig and his nephew David Lovig.

Special thanks to the warm, loving staff at Devonshire Cottage and to the unwavering support from our family friend James Stewart for holding us all together for the last few months.
