Robert Markley Atkins Jr., affectionately known as “Bob”, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, at the of 90. Born on June 26, 1935 in Dayton, Ohio. He was the son of Robert Markley Atkins Sr. and Mary Burrell. Bob attended Helix High School and went on to take classes at Grossmont College in San Diego. Bob spent several seasons working for Forest Service in the Central Sierras in California. Bob was in the Army Reserves and called into active duty for what was known as the Second Berlin Crisis of 1961. Bob married the love of his life, Carol Atkins in 1965. Carol died in 2024, a year before their 60th wedding anniversary. Bob spent a majority of his career involved in restaurant industry and eventually retired in 2005. Bob was a volunteer fire fighter at Station 40 in Coto de Caza, he was also a fixture on the Coto de Caza homeowners board. When Bob wasn’t serving his community, he could often be found at the shooting range, working on car or home improvement projects, or lending a hand to family and friends with their endeavors. He loved to travel and especially cherished sailing his catamaran sail boat with Carol at Huntington Lake, a passion he proudly shared with his children and grandchildren. Bob is survived by his two children, their spouses, and five grandchildren.
Bob was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose warmth, wit, and kindness touched all who knew him. Bob’s presence brightened every room, and his gentle guidance will be dearly missed by all those fortunate enough to have shared in his remarkable life. Bob will be dearly missed and forever remembered.
