Obituary

Richard VanRyne, 79, passed away peacefully at home on March 22, 2026, with his loving daughter and son-in-law by his side.

He was born on April 11, 1946, in Decatur, Illinois, to Jane Vanryne. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a medic for four years, an experience that foreshadowed his lifelong connection to the medical field.

He went on to graduate from Illinois State University with his bachelor’s degree and built a successful lifelong career in the medical device industry. Known for his persistence and relationship building, he earned the respect of colleagues and friends alike.

He was a devoted father to his two children, Julie and Mark. He experienced the profound loss of his son, Mark, who passed away on March 22, 2021 from Mitochondrial Disease.

He is survived by his daughter, Julie Wright, her husband Ben, and his beloved grandchildren, Brady and Teagan, who brought him immense pride and joy.

He had a passion for golf and discovering good restaurants. In his younger years, he traveled extensively, exploring destinations all over the world. A lifelong and enthusiastic Dodgers fan, he rarely missed a chance to cheer on his team. He also cherished the simple joys of home and community, living in the same house for over 40 years and forming lasting friendships with his neighbors, whom he cared for deeply.

He will be remembered for his love for his family, and the life he built through hard work, loyalty, and determination.

A private service will be held by the family this coming summer.
