He has been described as “bigger than life,” “a brilliant executive with a generous spirit” and a “one-of-a-kind friend and peer.’ Duty, loyalty, humility, responsibly and supporting others to become their best where his motto. A friend wrote, “He cut through emotion to what he recognized as the logical and effective solution.” One family member wrote, ‘He was always there,He always picked up the phone. Always.’

Richard was known for his thought-provoking statements like “cash is king,” “proper prior planning prevents piss poor performance,” “it’s all about the team” and “I’d rather die while living than live while dying.” His last written statement was ‘Try to judge me not for what I did, but look for what I’ve done.’

  1. Karen Rippy says:

Many times a person is the epitome of a phrase or great quote, where that person comes to mind each time it is heard…

“The best executive is the one who has sense enough to pick good men to do what he wants done, and self-restraint to keep from meddling with them while they do it.”
    -Theodore Roosevelt

But Rich was much more than just an executive who lived by the words “Cash is King”, he was a man who always put others before himself, a great champion of learning and education, and one whose word you could always depend upon. He was a man of family and faith, and a person who always saw the best in people no matter how hard that they may try to show the worst side first, and would always describe the best qualities of those he knew to anyone who would listen.

Rich was a person who enjoyed life to its fullest extent everyday, and in his rememberence we are celebrating his life and all the wonderful things he was to all of us…

    Karen,

My deepest condolences go out to you and all of Rich’s family. I was deeply saddened by the news of his sudden death.
This must be a very difficult time for you. Please remember that Rich touched many lives, was very much admired and respected and we will miss him so much. I truly enjoyed working with Rich at both Emulex and Continuus. He used to love to tease me about being short and I in turn loved his attention. I very much looked forward to seeing him at our Continuus Reunions. He was in the outstanding and brilliant group of executives I had the pleasure to work with.

    Warm Regards,

    Diane Davis

I’m very sorry for your loss. I worked with Rich at Continuus years ago. He was always a nice and fair guy.

  5. Karen,

I worked for Rich at Continuus Software, Access360, and IBM. I think your initial tribute says it all. He was a good man and it was truly an honor to work with him and call him a friend and boss.

    Regards,

    James F. Gore
